My Blues Jr. is about 3 weeks old. Yesterday I turned it on and before I plugged the guitar in it just sat there crackling with static. I very lightly tapped the back of the cabinet and it produced more static then I did the same thing to the back of the speaker and the same thing happened again. While I was playing it sounded distorted, not clean at all. The volumn was set on 5 on both the master and regular volumn knobs and the guitar`s volumn was on 5 so it wasn`t like I had it too loud to create distortion. Tomorrow I`m bringing it back where I bought it from to let them hear it but this does not seem normal. Has anyone who owns this amp ever had this happen ? Its on the cool side in my basement which is where I play and don`t know if this has anything to do with it. The amp was about 5 feet away from the computer at the time, could that have caused the problem ?

Was the static constant or not? If it was the CP may have added to the problem. If not it sounds as if one of the tubes was not seated properly.

Hi JPD, mine is four months old and no problem whatsoever yet. I suppose that you tried a few non intrusive quick tests, like poking the tubes, unplug and plug back all the jacks. As long as it is brand new you should return it for further testing under warranty. Good luck.

For general information I thought I should post this.

and this.

The second one is more about cracking noises.

I had it on before and there was no static but yesterday the static was pretty constant. I called the store I got it from and I`m within my time to exchange it for another one so I`m going back with it tomorrow. Once they look at it I`ll see what they say and take it from there. I just might ask for a different one. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the answers.

Thanks cu, it was a bit close to the computer but I had it on last night with no pedals attached and I had it away from the computer and still had static now and then. I checked the tubes to see if they were seated right and they seemed like they were. I`m calling the store today, I`ll talk to the saleman and may exchange it for another one. Its not even a month old so I`m within my exchange time. Thanks everyone for the help.

It happens. Exchange it. I recently had to exchange my NOS Blues Junior because of a similar problem.

I found out what the static was from...my cell phone. I went to talk to the salesman, he pulled out a new amp they had from their back room, the amp was in a sealed box. He took it out of the box to show me something, I looked in the back and one tube was laying on the bottom of the amp and another tube was totally missing. I`m holding onto my amp and I`m going to see what happens in the next few days. I have 45 days to return it so I`ll just see how it goes. Now I take my cell phone off and put it away from the amp while I play and so far its ok. I couldn`t believe that the quality control in the Mexican factory is that bad, how could they let an amp thats missing tubes out of the warehouse ?

Sounds more like a shipping problem than a quality problem at the Mexico plant.

No cu...it was quality control. A tube was missing, one fell out and was laying at the bottom of the amp. But another one wasn`t even there. There was an empty position for the other tube. Even the salesman said it was missing. That amp came out of a sealed box, thats not something that happens during shipping. I can understand if the tubes shifted during shipping cause that happened to mine. This was an oversight on their part. No big deal, they`ll have to replace it for the music store.

I had a similar problem with a NOS Blues Jr. that I got at Christmas from GC. When they pulled it out of the box at the store one of the tubes was nestled in the coiled up power cord. The sales person put it back and the amp sounded fine. However, when he pushed the tube into the socket it appeared to be loose. Any kind of knock during shipping would have dislodged it.

This Blues Jr. also had a stripped input jack so I finally had them replace the amp. New one seems great.
