Mine dumped after 3 gigs. Then again a couple months later. Then again. Mine's about 2 years old now and it's starting to act up again. It's never the same thing twice. It's not modded. Do a search on other forums and you'll see how reliable it is. Fender would not go out of business from all the warranty claims. Repairing an amp does not cost as much as replacing an amp. It's the price point of the amp and it's power that makes it the #1 selling amp in their line, not its reliability. They expect problems, that's why it has a 5 year warranty.

My 76 Twin only had a 1 year warranty and has never been in the shop except for routine maintenance, in over 30 years not because it broke down.

I checked Harmony Central for reliability of the HR and it gets a 8.5 rating ,while the Twin gets both a 8.1 and 9.1 reliability rating. There is no question there have been people from time to time that have had problems, but to say the whole line has reliabiity issues is a whole other matter.

From reading this, I can only guess that you've never worked in product design and manufacturing. First, frequent warranty repairs are a huge drain for any company. Second, companies don't provide a 5-year warranty because they expect tons of problems and want to be nice to their customers. This is laughable. Products are designed to fail for the first time once the warranty has expired.

I know the HR series has had some issues, specifically switching channels on their own as well as cold solder joints and tube sockets, but they have improved over the years.Todays product is very reliable. As a manufacturer the idea is to improve the product and minimize warranty repairs, not expect them.

First off, you don't know me. Second, I worked in manufacturing for over 20 years as a machinist and custom machine assembler for the pharmaceutical industry building time pressure filling systems. I know about warranty work. I've done it. Warranty work is not a huge financial drain on a company, it's an opportunity to make money due to operator error or abuse. It pretty much evens out.
I'm sorry I even bought my HRDlx. They are not reliable compared to all the amps I've had in the past and still own. Check out www.thefenderforum.com and do a search on HRDlx and you'll see the problems have never been addressed. It sounds great when it works. I use gear as tools, if it fails me too many times, I'll say so and eventually get rid of it. I've been playing Fender amps for over 40 years so I would say I'm a loyal fan. I would not recommend the Hot Rod series to anyone. Oh yeah, my GDec just died too after 3 months. They had a lot of problems with those too. Software and hardware. Glad I have the warranty. :D
I would take Harmony Central reviews with a grain of salt.
