I boughtg a new 300m Tube Headin June and it has been perfect up until yesterday. I turned it on in standby and let it warm up for 5 minutes. I plugged my bass in and clicked thestandby switch and it made a loud pop and flash and died. I plugged the bass into another amp using the same cable and it is fine. I replaced the fuse and it did thesame thing. The amp has never been out of my house. Any suggestions other than lugging it somewhere for service? It has only been used with the new Fender Pro 215 Cabinet.
Thanks, Marc Seidler

Check the power tubes. 9 times out of 10 it's a shorted power tube.

Considering that it blows teh fuse as soon as I take it out of standby and that in Standby you cannot see the green indicator lights for tubs status how can I check teh tubes to determine which one is bad?

I'm not familiar with your amp, but what I would do is pull one power tube turn it on and see if it blows, if it does, replace that one and pull the next one turn it on and so on. If you pull one and the fuse holds, that should be the bad one. If it still blows, I would suspect the power tranny.

I would say power tubes or caps. Since the amp is only a few months old, I would believe its the power tubes. My mesa did the same exact thing, I replaced the power tubes and its been fine for years now.

Blowing fuses on a tube amp is the power tubes 99 out of 100 times. Have the amp biased as well, your tubes should last longer than that, it may be biased to hot. My mesa was about 5 years old when mine went, but that amp sees only minor daily duty. It rare that I get a chance to really turn it up. If you play loud a lot, that can also shorten tubes. Some companies warranty tubes for upto 6 months, so check your warranty

Thanks for the input. I never had it over 4 on the gain and 3 on the volume. Played only in my home studio with my Blues Band. I take light weighet stuff when I play out. I took it to a local (1 hour away) Fender Authorized Repair Center Friday. They say 1 week. It is still under waranty so I wil have to see what the problem is.

They replaced all 6 power tubes for $320. It was fine form 90 days and just started making a popping noise when swtiching from Standby to Normal. It has me worried. Plays Ok, but the noise is not normal. If it blows another fuse I and tube failue I am going back to no tubes.
