Can someone help me with how to go about connecting a cab to my Bassman 250 /1x15 combo? I want to buy the matching 4x10 cabinet and still leave the 15" in the combo cabinet hooked up. Will I have to get a different ohmage speaker in the combo cab? Can it even be done? Thanks Dave

No one can help me out here? We would like to hook another cabinet (4 10's) to our bassman250 combo. It says you have to unhook the internal speaker wire before connecting an external cabinet....but why? I know the answer is impedance matching to the amp, so what has to be done to be able to do it? Change the speaker in the combo? solder in different resistors? Just not sure how it's done properly.....Thanks to anyone!! Dave

I'm getting ready to buy a new amp and was looking at the Bassman 250/210. My question goes along with basically what you've asked...I was wondering if in the future, I could hook up a 15" cab underneath the 210, and how.

Sorry no answers, just questions.

I don't own or use any of the amps mentioned, but I looked at the following items:

Specs for Bassman 150, 250-115, 250-210 and 250 HD Head and the Bassman 410 Bass Speaker Enclosure
(specs are off each product page)

Manuals for the above - mostly to see back panels and speaker restrictions
(click thru to Bass Amps - http://www.fender.com/support/electronic_products.php

The Bassman 410 Speaker is an 8-ohm unit.

All the amps have one thing in common - they are 4-ohm minimum load amps. The Combos and the Head have 2 speaker connections and a Speakon connector.

The manual says:
Quote:
Use the 1/4" phone jacks and Speakon connector in any combination to connect a total speaker load of 4-ohmns minimum. Combo units have a 4-ohm internal speaker load for maximum power output. The following configurations are recommended:

One 4-ohm speaker
Two 8-ohm speakers

Hope this helps. Plugging in the 4-ohm internal and an 8-ohm will put the 2 speaker sets in parallel, so you would see about 2.66-ohms ( 4*8 / 4+8 ) which is too low - you will harm the amp.

(edited to fix some typos)

Thanks tons for that info. That answers that question and brings up another for me, hehe. Get the 250/210 cab or get a head and cab.

Anyway, thanks.

Giljanus - I had already read the manual and spec sheet, thats why I'm trying to find the way around what it says in the manual, but thanks for that info.... I guess the only solution is going to be to replace the speaker with an 8 ohm speaker that when coupled with the external cabinets 8 ohm rating, will equal 4 ohm minimum.
Bronzdragon - If I had it to do over again I would definately buy the amp and the cabinets seperately. Mostly for the reason I am encountering right now, that you basically can't hook up an external cabinet without replacing the speaker in the combo cabinet. I would rather give up the convenience of the combo, and have the seperate head and cabinets that you can use independently or together.
Thanks dave
