Just got my Hod Rod Deluxe and I must say I am very satisfied so far. This thing rocks! Super loud and clear and will be perfect for gigging soon. Anyways, the one downfall to it is the Distortion/Drive. I play alternative, Hard Rock, an sometimes mess with some Metal for fun. The sound is OK, but I know i can make it better. I am planning to add an overdrive/distortion pedal to make up for what the amp lacks. There are 2 I have in mind. Let me know what you guys think and if you use a different pedal that works well please let me know

Boss DS1- My lead guitarist has one, I hooked it up and it sounded pretty good. Only question I have is the price- $36- Does that mean its bad quality sound?

Boss OS2- $64 not bad price. Heard it is pretty good.

I'm using a HR Deville 410 with a Ibanez TS9 and a Bad Monkey for OD. I use a Hardwire Valve Dist for heavier stuff. With these three pedals I can go from country twang to screaming gain. All are very transparent and let your guitars natural tone shine through.

You won't get a good Metal sound from the Drive channels on a HRDlx.
If you change the tubes, you'll get a more usable distortion sound from the HRDlx. I'm pretty happy with JJ's.

The DS-1 is a fantastic pedal I'd recommend that actually. Especially in this economy.

Dont let the price fool you, it's used by ALL the pros. Satriani, Vai, Neal Schon, Larry Mitchell, Eric Johnson. It's a must have for leads or marshally rhythms. it's versatile too. You can turn the tone knob up for rhythms, or OFF for smooth violin leads. It should pair VERY well with a fender tone stack. Hope this helps, i used mine on all sorts of recordings.

Satch has a new pedal that won't break the bank. It's reviewed in GP. Supposed to be a great pedal.

LOL it does appear that way. What I meant was that while it did sound good, I would like to know if theres others that sound a lot better for a small difference in price. I think Im just gonna go with that one though
