It seems to me that they're equally suited for that. their main difference is wattage.

thanks,
yeah i did a little research, and realized the wattage is different.

the super champ is the same wattage as blues junior.
i tested the super champ at guitar center, and loved it. for the price,
im not sure if wait and dish out 3-4 hundred more for the blues junior or get the super champ.

Does anyone know if Fender is about to stop production on the Super Champ XD. I heard this on another board. I hope that this is not true due to the fact that I'm wanting to purchase one here in the next month or so.

I tried out both Champs this past summer and concluded that the base sound was about identical. However, the FX, etc. with the XD to my mind more than offset the price difference.

I'm currently in an informal duo (other guy plays guitar and sings; I play lead, rhythm or bass depending on the tune) and the XD's built in FX are enough for me. We do old school stuff like Beatles, light "surf", old Stones, basic blues and R&B, etc. For that kind of vintage music, what's built in is enough not to need to drag around my pedal board or one of the big amps.

At low volume (I'm thinking ... haven't tried it yet), it should be enough for small room gigs. I'd considered a Blues Jr. too and the larger speaker might have given me a bit more volume but in the end I decided that for what I was doing, the XD was the most versatile option.

I would consider the SCXD's effects - if you want those effects and don't already have pedals, then it may be a good deal for you considering you liked the sound equally as well compared to the Blues Jr.

In my room right now I have a PRRI, SCXD and BJR. The BJR is not even in the same league tone wise as the other two and the SCXD gets 90% of the PRRI tone.

I hadn't heard that! I would think the XDs fill a gap in Fender's amp offerings. The Super Champ outsells the Vibro Champ I guess because people like two channels, the bigger speaker, and the additional wattage, but I don't need them. I was afraid they might discontinue the VCXD . . . but I got one already.

Received an email this morning from Fender... :)

Hello,

Thanks for writing in. There are no plans on the horizon to discontinue these amplifiers. They are extremely popular, and we have a hard time keeping them in stock. Don’t expect them to go away any time soon. I hope this will help you out.

Best Regards,
