I currently use my bassist spare Roland Cube 60 but he's leaving the band so i have to get my own....

do you have a preference between solid state and tube amps?

well, tube amps definitely are known for their far superior tone. the cheapest tube amp i know of is a Fender Champion 600. Its a small 5W all tube with 6" speaker for about $200. if you are looking for a practice amp and you play just by yourself, this wouldnt be a bad idea. If you require something bigger and louder, I highly reccomend the Fender blues junior. All the versions are under $500 except one thats about $550. I know a couple people that have this and it sounds beautiful and would definitely compliment your new tele nicely. Its a 15W 1x12. But don't let the 15W turn you away. Tube amps are louder than solid state and this sucker can get darn loud. If I needed an amp for $500, this would without a doubt be the one I bought. Check out musiciansfriend.com.

You might want to check out some of the Peaveys ...

... a little more than $500 but in the ballpark.

i dont know, i feel the need to compete with the peaveys. although i am extremely partial to fenders, i wouldnt even look back with the blues junior for $500.

Then again, maybe it depends on what kind of tones you like.

Well...I have overdrive pedals pedals and can borrow other hinds too so im not too bothered about the dirty and distorted tones.....i just want a warm clean sound.....and a amp that has a larger variation of tones than my rubbish 15watt frontman.... :P id prefer if it was gig quality too.....

well fender amps are notorious for there pristine clean tones. Personally, I like that amazing clean as a foundation to use pedals over. I also have a bunch of overdrive pedals, that's why I don't look for on-board amp distortion. I would still feel comfortable with the blues junior. As for "gig quality," first of all it depends on how big you define gig. Small gigs, i'm sure this amp could handle it. Even if not, now a days people more often tour with 1x12s and 2x12s and mic them over the PA. If you yourself play a gig, chances are its so small the venue wouldn't have a PA system because its that small and you wouldn't need it as a result OR it does have a PA and you can just mic your amp. How we doin now?
