A Super Champ is about all you'll get in a tube amp. It's 15 watts. You probably couldn't get over a drummer unless you mic it.
Solid state amps will have more power in your price range but I can't stand SS amps. Maybe a used Peavey Classic. It has 30 watts and may be better for gigging.
You choices are pretty limited in your price range.

the cheapest tube amp i know of is $200, the fender champion 600. Like the last guy said, with your price range you would probably be looking for a solid state amp. for 300 you can get a pretty darn loud solid state of some sort. my 2 amp was a 75W line 6 spider 2 combo modeling amp. I played a gig with it, didnt have it near full volume. It was a small sized gig though. That amp was $350. But for under 300 theres such a wide selection of solid state amps that can probably get as loud as you are looking for.

Hello Dougiedogg23ws6,

If I had a spare $300.
Frontman 65R is my choice.
Not a tube amp but nice tone
with a good deal of volume.
It incudes a footswitch to
change channels.

Cheers.

good point. I forgot about the frontman and i didnt know the super champ was that cheap! I guess it boils down to how loud you need to be without a mic.
