I am currently looking for a new Solid State amp. Currently,I've been using a Crate GX-65 for the past year or so,but now I feel that it's time to get something new,and I would like to go with Fender. I am curious about the Frontman 65 combo series. I've read reviews where some people have said that it's great and others have said that it's a piece of crap. I am concerned only because a little over 2 years ago, I had owned a FM 212 R and I wasn't pleased with that amp at all. While the clean on it was fine, the distortion on it was one of the worst I've ever heard. Before I make my decision, which will be this week,I'd like to hear from anyone who owns this amp.

Jeff - I have a 65R and its an incredibly clean sounding and plenty powerful amp. I have noticed a couple drawbacks: The clean channel volume is very sensitive. There seems to be a bit more noise than my Pro Reverb (tube) amp. At reverb setting above 5 it seems to buzz. I think this amp was engineered to be cheap and powerful. They hit the mark with the price at $269.00, this thing is dirt cheap. With 65W RMS power this thing will violate the stage volume rule on clean channel setting 3. The trade off is that they did not shield things the way they should have. I purchased mine to use as a practice amp so I could stop carrying my Pro Reverb (heavy) amp to practice. Also its nice to have a spare when performing.

Jeff - Oh yeah. That one should have much better tone than the smaller 1x12 amps. Plus the wattage is good too - plenty of headroom. Although I don't know where you can use 120W (rms I assume). Maybe a stadium gig <hehe>. ttyl -Ron
