For a bass amp, 20W to 35W is not nearly enough power to gig with!

Here are some amps from $200 - $300, check out the ones with the highest wattage. The Behringer ones have the highest wattage for the money with the Gallien-Kruegers coming in second. I never tried these amps but they have good user ratings. May be worthwhile for you to research further ...

It's funny because wattage is not the only factor in the volume of an amp. Second, define gig. 35W in a bass amp is definitely loud enough for a small gig to maybe 50 people - to give a value. Also, we don't live in the 60's. Now a days, People gig with 1x12s and 2x12 and mic them. PA Systems exist. That's why we see stacks of house speakers on either side of the stage. When's the last time any of us saw an act on stage with a wall of amps behind them and thats it?

I'm just saying don't sacrifice tone for a higher number in front of wattage. Maybe you should "research further." Perhaps talk to some people in a music store and not two people in a Fender forum arguing back and forth.

I think you could find a used FenderBassman combo amp for around that money. Tell you what they ROCK !! I love my 250watt 1x15, it is plenty loud for small/med. gigs.

I have the 2X10 version and completely agree -- more than enough power for something like a bar gig or similar. And as others have mentioned, there's always mic'ing the amp too.
