Hi!

I'm trying to change to input jack on my amp, but these knobs are so hard to get off. I've already broken 3 pots trying to get the knobs off.

also, where is a good place to buy the pots for the amp?

any help is appreciated...

You don't say how and I'll bet the how is why the knobs break. The technique is simple: you have to lever the knobs off. Since specialty tools are hard to find and are expensive, try using 2 spoons, or better still, 2 chisels as levers to pop the knobs off. Set them up opposite to each other, apply equal force from both sides simultaneously, lever the knob off. Should pop right off with no breakage.

Ciao,
Johnny.

The problem with butter knives is that they wiggle and leverage can be poor. I use chisels (3/8" or 1/2") and work the knobs off slowly with even force on both sides. If you put too much on one side, snap, crackle, then pop. One more thing, the chisels spread the contact area so that I am not forcing on just one point of the knob's skirt bottom, this minimizes (or eliminates) any "work damage" to the knobs. I learned this the hard way!

Ciao,
Johnny.

Cool. I'll give the chisels a try. Thanks for the input.

Where is a good place to get a few new pots? I'm really hoping to be able to repair the pots, but i'm not optimistic.

I would recommend using new pots, busted pots are too tough to fix without specialized tooling. Get new genuine Fender parts from any large online dealer (right specs, right mechanical fit,...).

Ciao,
John.

I ended up using 2 bottle openers and it worked like a charm... Thanks for the ideas.
