I'm looking to get a fender amp. I have a Marshall half stack which sounds fantastic, but is not really practical for when I'm playing in smaller venues. I have a line 6 spider 2 amp, but it doesn't sound so good when turned up loud. I thinking of trading it in and getting a fender, but I'm unsure what to get. I'm looking for something thats loud enough to be heard over drums and bass and will not loose its tone when loud. I play both clean tones and distortion. Can any one recommend something?

Hi Dale, and welcome to the forum.

If you look around this site you will find pros and cons, love and hate, for just about all amps... even non fender. The best advise you will find is, test driving many amps and deciding for yourself, again you will find all of the opinions you want here, but in the end its all up to you.

Good Luck let us know how it turns out

Welcome to the Fender Forums !!

I'll go out on a limb and suggest something from the Hot Rod series, something bigger than the Blues Jr. Check 'em out on the Products page.

Thanks!! I have managed to find a Fender ultimate chorus for a pretty resonable price. I think I will go down check that out see how it sounds with my strat! I already have a marshall, not that interested in getting another one. Don't get me wrong, its a great amp, but I'm really into the fender sound!
Played alot of other makes recently as well and nothing really jumped out and said buy me! Too many companys are trying to be over complicated. I dont need a million digital effects built into an amp. Thats what my pedal board is for!

Not played a hot rod before I don't think. I will look into that!

It depends on what you want to run, Valve or Solid State.

I used to run a Fender frontman 212 series 2 for gig's. Great tone and absolutely loud enough to play over drums. It gets a little thin when cranked up but I fixed this by pulling the treble back to 2 and it still gave me good tone and 100 watts. It is small & lite, Brand new I paid $500 au. This amp is wicked, you get bang for your buck. It delivers Fender tone without doubt.

I just recently purchased a Fender 410 Hot Rod Deville and I love it. Cost me $1800 au, and man I find it hard to plug into my Fender Frontman 212 and my Hughes and Kettner 212 which are both solid state and also great amps.

Don't do what I did, I suggest you go valve with your first purchase of a Fender amp. Yes the 410 is heavier, but I am in Fender Tone Heaven with this amp.

Since you use pedals try out a 59 Bassman. Mine sounds so sweet with my 62 RI strat and a tube screamer its hard to stop playin.

Prior to buying my Fender 410 Hotrod Deville and My Fender Frontman 212, I ran a Fender Deluxe Reverb Stomp Box (boss) and a ts 9 through my Hughes & Kettner 212.

It sounded great but I found that the FDR-1 broke up on me too early and didn't cator for my clean Reggae Chops. All great for those Crunchy crisp SOLOS.

I didn't really look into the FDR-1 a great deal prior to buying it, but I don't regret buying it. I use it for another project i'm constructing. "Country"

They sound great, but I'm more than satisfied with buying the real deal as far as my Hotrod Deville is concerned. The actual amplifier itself.

Yes I know that Fender endorsed the FDR-1 but there's nothing like the real thing. Especially when it's up on stage with you where people can see it. Not hiding on the ground.

Hey your right, damn it's hard to get off the vibe when your krankin the amp up and tweakin the stomp boxes..

Just sharing my experience..PEACE and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went for the ultimate chorus in the end. It was a great price, and was loud enough for what I need. Has a really good tone for a solid state amp, especially on the clean channel with my strat.
