Hi everyone, first post here. I purchased a used Blues Junior (about 3.5 years old) and its humming loudly. I recently used a buddies blues junior and it was very quiet. I checked the speaker cable connection, all tubes are seated solidly....I don't have a clue.

Any suggestions are appreciated in advance,
vbf

Sounds like maybe there's a problem with one or more of the tubes. Try switching out the different tubes and see if you can isolate the problem to one of the tubes.

Welcome to the Forum.

It could be a tube/s.

Also, Try the amp plugged in somewhere else. If it is on the same electrical circuit with any major appliances, computer, certain lights, etc. it will hum.

Thanks, badbluesplayer. I replaced all the tubes and still get humming, more than I think it should. The dude at GC told me that some hum is normal. I've never had a tube amp before so I'm in unfamiliar territory. To give you an idea of how much hum I'm hearing I'll try and describe:

I'm sitting about 4 feet from the amp (its on the floor). The master volume is set at around 3.5 and the volume is at 4. The fat switch is out. I'm sitting at a desk next to a desktop computer that's on and I can hear the amp humming over the normal noise coming from a desktop. To me, that's too loud. I may be normal for a Blues Junior, I don't know. I'll use the amp at church and mic it, so any noise is going to be picked up into the sound system. I used a buddy's Blues Junior and it didn't hum like this.

Like Chet said make sure you are not near where the power comes into the house or where lots of appliances are. You can get A LOT of hum that way.

Are you sitting by your computer using a guitar with single coils? That would cause hum.

Yup, it's normal to a degree with tube amps and single coils but sitting too close and other appliances around with exaggerate it.

Thanks to all who offered their assistance. New tubes have solved the problem. Merry Christmas.
