I`m thinking about selling my fairly new G Dec 30 and getting a Blues Jr. Any opinions on this move ? I`m not using the G Dec to its full potential anyway but I hear the Blues Jr. is a little heavy. Due to a job related back injury I have to be careful what I choose.

The Blues Junior weighs 31 lb, if I remember correctly. I have a Hot Rod NOS model, and it's pretty light.

Mine is a fine-sounding amp...I play Gibsons through it (a Les Paul Deluxe and ES-335 currently; I'm adding an SG to arsenal soon) and they are a great combination.

I can't compare it with the G-amp -- I have a constitutional aversion to amps with "features" -- but, certainly, if you're not using the potential of the G, it'd be my impulse to go with the BJ...especially since I really like the sound of mine.

I have slightly modified mine: Ruby Reverb and a Weber Beam Blocker. It doesn't sound like much in the living room, but when I can open it up just a crack it sings. I recently spent 7 hours playing it in a friend's geodesic-dome living room with high ceilings, and it came to life. Luckily he was up to playing that long, too.

Thanks for the reply. I find all the features on the G amp more of a pain to dial in than anything. I put the amp up for sale and I`m going to get the Blues Jr.

I really DISLIKE having to constantly tinker with settings. Some people take to it...but my favorite amp is still my '63 Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve. Turn it up and it sounds better. Turn the tone controls and not much happens. That's my kind of amp.

Thanks. I like the blonde, but if I ever find a cherry red 355 with a Bigsby, I'll buy it on the spot.

Well, thanks. I've whittled it all down. All the peculiar electrics (Ric 12, Gretsch Country Gent, pawn shop prizes etc) are gone, replaced by Gibsons (and an SG on order). Once I got into a working band playing bass, I discovered the Precisions, and they are all I have now.

I also play harmonica (just finished a stint playing in the orchestra pit for a production of Big River) but somehow photos of harps don't do much.

So what do you have? Show some pics (or links).

I have a 85 MIJ strat, a 2007 MIA Ash Deluxe Strat, a CS David Gilmour Strat, A Gibson J 185-EC Blues King Jumbo acoustic. As far as amps go I have a Fender Blues Jr.(blond), a Acoustasonic(Fender) SFX II, and a CS 57 Fender Twin Tweed amp. A set of Pearl Drums. I'll have to get them all together and post a pic for you as soon as I can.

Sorry for getting off subject OP!!!

How did that Gibson get in there? Sounds like Strats do it for you. I had one that I had modified pretty much, but the long scale didn't fit me.

I'd love to play through your '57 twin. If I were richer, I'd buy one just to look at!

Where in LA are you? I'm about 50 mi from Many and 90 from Shreveport.

Of all the stuff in the pics at Photobucket, all I have now are the Les Paul and the 335, the two flat tops (the Ventura was my first guitar, bought in '70 for $35, and now sporting Gotoh tuners and a custom spruce top), the Regal and Dobro resonators, and the three Ps. Amps are down to the Blues Jr, a Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight (another awesome Fender product), the Pignose G40V, the Silvertone, and a Hartke 115 cab and HA2500 head.

That's out of a total of 9 amps and 30 guitars and basses. I've made a concerted effort to shed everything that doesn't get played all the time. It looks like 10 or 11 instruments is going to be the lower limit, though, since I play and gig with so many.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Hi JPD,

I've been combing the amplifier section here trying to get some ideas about the new amps, and some of the amps I am considering are the G-dec, and the Cyber-Twin.
I'm looking at the G-dec as a portable practice/composition amp, then the Cyber twin as a performing amp. I see you are selling yours and you don't seem too happy with the G-dec.
I don't know too much about these new Fender amps, and I'd appreciate some honest feedback on them.

Thank you in advance,
-Harley 8)

Hi Harley, honestly speaking, the only reason why I`m selling the G Dec is because I`m not using it to its full potential and probably never will. I liked the idea that it has the drum backup and the fact that you can record and do your own overlays with it but after buying it I realized I would never use the features on it. You can really tweak this amp and it has numerous amps built into it to choose from to get the sound you really want. But I`m looking for something more simple to use and I`m considering the Blues Jr. There is nothing wrong with this amp, its just that I`m better off with less features. I hope I was of some help...Joe

Thank you Joe,
Actually, very helpful. I can understand how an amp like this might be a bit cumbersome to the guitar player who just wants to plug it in and "GO!" I don't mind spending time with gear and editing and dialing in sounds. I am also a member at the ADA Depot, since I think I may own more ADA gear than just about any other guitar player, so I'm not new to the concept. I've watched the promo videos for the G-Dec, and I plan to check into the Cyber-Twin also since I'm loooking for a more portable version of my rack systems to take to smaller venues and perform with. The G-Dec looks to be too underpowered to play average night clubs with, which is why I'm considering the C-Twin. THe G-dec looks to be a good platform to write on if you can program, or download your own rhythm patterns into them. Have you tried this?
Also,....I see in your signature that you own a '63 Princeton Reverb. I own a '70 Princeton Reverb, and wondered if it would be possible to run a preamp line out from the G-Dec to the Princeton and run them in tandem that way to get a bigger sound. Have you tried anything like that?
I apologize if I'm rambling. I get ideas in my head and usually, I consider about six different ways to use anything I'm in the market to buy.
Thank you again for your help Joe,
-Harley 8)
