What guitar amplifier should I get?
Here are some of my influences: Aerosmith, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cheap Trick, CSN, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, The Doors, The Eagles, ELO, ELP, Eric Clapton, Genesis, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mother Love Bone, Neil Young, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, The Police, Porcupine Tree, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Rush, Santana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Temple of the Dog, U2, Van Halen, The Who, ZZ Top etc...

My favorite guitarist is David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and I know he uses Hiwatt amps, the thing is they're to expensive.

What I want is a sort of rush/zeppelin kind of distortion with a really nice vox/fender kind of clean. I want a tube amp and I was thinking about a Peavy classic 50 or an ENGL 50 screamer, but I'm not sure. Here's the thing, I want a "dirty" amp distortion, with a really nice clean sound. If I can't obtain that than I would rather have a nice clean sounding amp than a dirty amp, I can always use a distortion pedal. If anyone knows an amp that provides both, then I'll look into it. If no such thing exists, then suggest me a nice clean sounding amp and I can figure out what to do from there.

How loud do you want to play? I would suggest a Blues Junior, but even this 15 watt amp can be suprisingly loud when cranked. If you plan to play gigs, it can be alittle small for large halls but you always have the option of miking the amp through a PA. I have never ever regretted buyng the one that I own. I have several tube and solid state amps that are bigger but this seems to be the one that gets the most play. You can frequently find sales on them too.

Blaqdog - This ain`t no better an than the Fender Super-Sonic (all-tube) or the Cyber Twin (tube pre-amps) for the variety of styles that you are looking for. The Cyber Twin is the king of versatility. The super-sonic is quite a tube amp too if you love real overdrive tone right out of the amp, which is what most of the guitar players were using, maybe expect Gilmour who was using fuzz pedals for his overdrive tone. I am a big Gilmour fan too, and the super-sonic is the best Fender amp I found for his style. 2 distinct clean tones to die for, and a dual-cascading gain overdrive channel that let you dial in anything from early 50`s overdriven tone to modern over-the-edge distortion with humbuckers. Best thing is to find one and try before you buy.

Look,
do yourself a favor and play as many as possible before you buy an amp.
Decide for yourself.
Remember this though: you alone know the volume of where you're going to play. You alone know the type of music you're going to play.
I play through a Fender Custom Shop Master Built Two-tone Amp. It's 15 watts. It can be loud. Ask my kids. It's a supped up Blues Jr. in a larger solid pine cabinet. Unlike the BJ it has two speakers, a 10" and a 12". It also has reverb and a fat switch.
I Love My Amp and will NEVER get rid of it.
This week I'm picking up a Gibson Goldtone Les Paul Jr. Amp. It's five watts. It's a class-A amp with point-to-point wiring, 12ax7 and EL84 tubes, an eight inch speaker and sounds luscious!
Check out the Harmony Central Reviews for both amps.
Here's the Fender:

Here is the Gibson:

Good luck.
Be patient and diligent, you'll find something.

+1 on the Cyber Twin as you're looking for a variety of sounds.
