I've been playing guitar for about 5 years and I feel that an upgrade is needed.
Right now I've been playing Epiphone Thunderbirds out of a 1X12" CRATE amp, and now with gigs I feel that getting a bigger amp is my next purchase.

I've been looking at buying an Orange amp, but my guitar teacher refered me to Fender.
I'm not looking for anything too big (a HUGE amp that weighs a ton), nor nothing too small (not able to be heard on stage).

I've tried the Rumble™ 25 Combo and the B-DEC™ 30.

If anyone knows of a wicked bass amp (Fender or not) could you inform me?

If you're playing out with a band you need wattage. That Rumble at 25 watts is way too small for gigging. I would say at an absolute minimum you need 100 watts. The thing to remember is that because of it's lower frequency tones the bass needs a higher wattage output amp than guitars in order to be heard clean and clear.

For bass, I'd stay away from the combo's usually they just don't put out enough oomph to gig with. Get a decent sounding head and hook up some cabinets to it. You'll be surprised at how much wattage you'll need to compete with the guitarists and drummers if you're not pumping it through the monitor or foldback.

I'd stick with a decent 115 speaker for starters and when you get more dolla' billz to jack into your rig get a 2x12 or 4x10.

Just my opinion.

I'm using a Bassman 2X10/250 watts and it's okay for small rooms. For larger gigs, I'd probably get external speakers -- either 4 X 10 or possibly a 1 X 15 with a horn. The 250W tends to overdrive the two 10" speakers in the combo but on the other hand, it's portable and all purpose.

I also use a tube pre-amp to warm up the sound a bit.

Overall (it also has a horn), it sounds best with my fretless Ocean with active pups. The 2 X 10 is great for a "trebly" bass sound. I tend to like it less with the Gibson SG reissue and the P-bass since I'm looking for a deep sound with those. The 10" don't really make it when you're trying to push a very deep sound.

The optimal for me would be a separate head (at least 250W, more is better) and combination of one 4 X 10 and and one 15. Well really, what I'd really like is a 2 X 12 with a horn, but I've never seen such a thing, at least not in recent years.
