Hey,

I just bought my first fender amp (and first all tube amp), and I am experiencing some problems. Whenever I play for about 30-45 minutes, a strange hissing develops. Not even hissing, just some weird noise that randomly starts up in the amp. Almost sounds like air being blown into something at a high velocity, I guess. Yet, when I flick the standby switch off and then on, the amp is immediately fine for another 30-45 minutes or so.

I am so confused and frustrated, because it is such an awesome sounding amp and I want to be able to use it at my jazz band concerts!

I would guess that it's a tube that's getting microphonic and when it heats to a certain temperature is when the bugs start showing.

Give the tubes a tap and if they ring like a mofo' you know they're getting bad. When the 'noise' starts is it possible to control the amplitude with the volume dials?

Welcome to the world of ceaseless frustration that is tube amps :-0
