This amp is really loud when it is hooked up to my Les Paul guitar. I could get that vintage overdrive sound. Sometimes, I have been thinking about changing the speakers in hopes of being able to handle the bassier sounds of my guitar. I notice that the it to baffle a bit because there is too much bass and I roll off the tone a bit. It sounds great playing the Star Spangled Banner and A minor boogie. I am thinking about changing to Celestions ten inch speakers. I am also thinking of getting the bandmaster head and enclosure hoping for a fuller sound. I am thinking about helping my cousin to get one for her because she wants to learn to play the guitar. Even though, it may drive her mother crazy because she may want to crank it with the overdrive. By now, I have owned it for about a year and there is nothing too much to complain about except for getting more powerful amp and better speakers for this amp. Tweaking the channels and the tones along with the effects is a load of fun and I still would recommend getting some hardwire pedals for more foot control while playing the guitar.

Second of all, Fender should keep their prices down to a mere $300 because I was surprised to see that it cost about $400 for a while at sometime ago. Than they decided to drop down to around $300. For a low price and for a beginner, this little amp should sell like hot cakes. This amp is worth for every penny spent. This amp is a keeper.

Peace,

Flood

That was an unfortunate thing for me. I had to get stock transferred in from another store, by the time it came time to buy it. The price had gone up by $100. Then not too long after, it went back down. Oh well. Still happy, regardless of what my wife paid (my money anyway).

I've had one about a year and can't say enough good things about it. For the price these sell at you can't beat it. I've thought about the speaker upgrade as well but as yet haven't changed the stock unit. Instead I may just get an extension cab such as the HRDX 12" for better bottom end. Still a fantastic little amp.

If I can give you some advice...don't change out the stock speaker. Once it is broken in it sounds sooo sweet!!! I thought of doing that until a friend of mine told me to just be patient. I am so glad because I would have lost out on such a wonderful tone. The extension cab also gives you a different option for new tones...just a thought.

Yeah, I'm gonna wait to do any mods, and it's likely I actually won't do any. I'm thinking right now, I'm not gonna change any tubes or speakers unless I really have to when something breaks down. I really like the amp the way it is now, and I don't think any mods are gonna magically make it any better.
YMMV.

I have a SCXD, and love it. My one gripe is that the overdrive is NOT tube driven, even though it's a tube amp - according to Fender.

Recently I used a Boss SD1 with it and it sounds good, quite gritty with lots of harmonics (would be good for some ZZ top methinks). However it IS possible with an all valve amp to use an overdrive pedal as a clean boost, to get the amp to overdrive itself more (by turrning up the level, and turning down the drive on the pedal). I tried this with my SC, unaware at that time that that the overdrive stage of the amp was transistor, the amp is now MUCH noisier than it was before and I wonder if I've damaged it in some way?

I would agree with one of the contributors on this thread who said preset 8 sounds like a marshall stack - my favorite setting!!

It is a great practice amp,and i use it as a backup for my 63 Vibroverb just in case. The tone is just classic Fender.

I got one last year about this time - I love it. Great little amp. It's portable enough for me to move if from my bedroom, down to the living room, or out onto the back deck.

It's more than loud enough for me, and it sounds very nice. Having some effects built in, means that I can fool around on the deck and not have to carry any pedals with me except for a tuner.

My SCXD is a pretty solid amp. The one thing that bugs the hell out of me though is that I heard channel 1 (the clean channel) Is dsp driven just like the channel 2 sounds. I hope it isnt but when i crank the amp the tube overdrive is pretty harsh and cardboardy. It still sounds fantastic tho.

Both channels are DSP driven.

Have had my SCXD for a good while now. Over a year! I really like the box because it's relatively light weight, but wasn't real crazy about the tone that is until I replaced the stock speaker with a ragin cagun from Eminence. WOW! My SCXD now sounds almost as good as my 1968 PA-100 pumped through a pair of 12" Celestion Vintage 30's, at about 1/3 the weight.

Both channels are DSP driven.

This is quite true, and, IMO it matters not one whit because, to my ear the amp has excellent tone on any and all settings.

I've got to say, this is the best $300 bucks I've ever spent. A fantastic little amp with great tone.

I've been using this amp at home and live (on a weekly basis) for over a year now and it's been great. Our sound guy likes the line out feature - I prefer to have the amp mic'd.

I have had my Super Champ XD now for about 6 months,I have used it to gig ,alone mic'd or pre amping a crate vintage club with it.
I just cant get over how many sounds I can get from that lil box.
Anyone here that has one??I been thinking of a speaker change and wondering if anyone here had any experiences with these lil beautys.
Ive read a few articles already but Im figured for sure I would find the best info here....
Speak up if'n ya do have one,I would like to hear your opinion

I've used mine for over a year and I love it! I can't play it enough. I thought about changing tubes and speaker on it, but really I don't think it needs it. I've heard that I should be using some Russian Tubes and a Rajin' Cajin' for the speaker, but honestly, I don't think it needs it!
