I have had my Super Champ XD now for about 6 months,I have used it to gig ,alone mic'd or pre amping a crate vintage club with it.
I just cant get over how many sounds I can get from that lil box.
Anyone here that has one??I been thinking of a speaker change and wondering if anyone here had any experiences with these lil beautys.
Ive read a few articles already but Im figured for sure I would find the best info here....
Speak up if'n ya do have one,I would like to hear your opinion

Please just be aware.....that while it may be tempting to swap out the speaker, it does void your warranty.

I have had one for about 4 months now. I absolutely adore it. Now, I just use it at home for practice and personal use...

.....with only a phillips screwdriver...

..........and you can swap it back if youneed warranty service..????

Yep, only the tech can void your warranty. If you mod the board, you void the warranty, as long as the speaker is the proper impedance, you will not void the warranty. You can always swap the speaker back too. Same thing with tubes. I've done it several times just with my HRDlx and didn't void a thing.

I put a JJ ECC83 in the pre-amp position, and love it (lots of Fender chime, and the one it came with, labelled "Fender", went bad after 5 months). My 6V6's are Groove Tube. Haven't tried anything else, but the sound right now is perfect. Think I would replace with same (Note: I've read that the power tubes are different in many of the amps. You should look to see what yours came with.).

I think the stock speaker is amazing. It has detail and lots of harmonics, especially bass. I have an Eminence Copperhead, and running the amp thru it was louder, but much less bass frequencies (especially if the amp is off the floor). Others have liked the Eminence Ragin' Cajun, but report a similar loss of bass. I'm leaving the stock speaker in (it really does look wimpy, but it is amazingly efficient, don't you think?).

Hi Super Champ Users,

I have my SCXD now for a week and I like it. I´ve looked for a good recording amp and I got one. I like the clean channel.
Do not swap the speaker. I tried a celestion speaker out of the ´70ies
and nothing happened regarding a better sound. An amp is a creation in itself. Changing the preamp tubes is not effectiv as changing tubes in a really all tube amp. So why modding this little helper? I like it as it is.
Where can I get this footswitch? Seems very useful with the effect Bypass.

I wish you all the best for christmas and many many fine hours with our little soundmaker.

PS: Playing for 35 years now. Srat, HRD and Tele owner. I like Danny Gatton, Arlen and all the other ....masters.

To my ears, the sound gets a lil muddy after half way volume some.It may have a lil too much bottom end for me at some settings
Im a guy that keeps the bass knob down it seems ,thats usually how it looks on my crate vintage clubs too,and the same on the xdchamp.
If Im giggin with it,its gotta get turned up,even though i mic it.
The Crates when I would turn them up would get that loose bottom to them,
I recently put a new Cannabis Rex into the 30 watt, and that helped quite a bit,,
My ears also would like to hear a lil more crispy edge to the highs, which dont seem to be there in the xd on channel one (without effex)
My epi 33dot sounds great with this amp at lower volumes,I also have a mim lefty strat, and a 91 jeff beck strat which all sound good, just a lil more tweeky in the high ends would help,,maybe a lil more clarity?
am I askin too much???

You might try putting this in. I thought it was way too "trebly" when I finally settled on the JJ. Could be the sound you're looking for, and cheap.

I've used a SCXD now for several months. While it is Excellent in itself I have modded mine and am getting HIGH END Boutique performance out of it. I started small and with each mod have noticed marked improvement. First I started with the 6v6's . I tried 6 different tubes and found that the 2 best were the Tung Sol re-issue and Vintage RCA Black plate. Slight differences in the 2 both are very good and better than stock. Next the 12ax7. People that say it doesn't make a difference have not tried it. Cuz it is a dramatic difference with the right tube. Vintage Amperex (i.e. Bugle boy and the like) are amazing. Once again Tung Sol re-issues are a close second along with vintage RCA.

I tried different speakers A Jensen, a Eminence Ragin Cajun and a Tone Tubby Ceramic to name a few. The Tone Tubby was a CLEAR winner with added 3D tonalities, significant added midrange detail and that undefinable umphhh that really reduces ear fatigue.

Finally just last month I added the Mercury Magnetics FBFDR-O Output Transformer (Tone Clone out of a 65' Deluxe Reverb). HUGE difference!!! It is now a Tone Monster that I would put up against ANY Boutique 50 watt or less amp costing up to $2500! I kid you not sounds better than my friends Trinity ($1800). Total invested $700 with labor from Fender factory authorized tech labor. BTW Having this work done by Fender authorized techs will NOT void your warrantee, got the word direct from Fender.

I will never own another amp. My search is over! Played through an extension Avatar 212H Special Cabinet it will hold it's own in almost any Venue. Looks puny on stage but tone wise kicks the crap out of whatever it's matched with. Absolutely nails ZZ Top, Stones, Def Leppard Tom Petty Ozzy etc. etc...AMAZING!

Was that Tone Tubby an easy fit then? didnt have to do anything else but put it in I mean? The couple sites I visited seemed to think that they were great sound wise. They are new to me,I was thinking my option was to be the Cajun, but just to be adventures I would give the Tubby a whirl
Now that Avatar 212H,has that got the Tubbys in it also?
The output transformer is interesting also.I think I remember reading about the "Dick Dale"transformer that Leo made for Dick's amps back in the day because Dick was burning up his Fender Amps, and it said that these did make a sound change
I really am diggin this amp,but I feel that it could be better tweaked
Did your mods thicken up any of the distortion voice's?They seem to sound a bit thin to me,,My elcheapo stomp box into the 1st channel gives me a fairly good distortion
