Interesting perspectives here for sure.
Overall Tone, portability and available clean/volume aka headroom, I find the Deluxe is my best option.

that being said 4x10 speaker sets are my favorite ! so....................

A Pro Reverb might be worth consideration, Joe. I will take exception to some of the Twin Reverb comments. Played a '68(AB763) Twin with Weber Chicago's and a negative feedback resistor adjustment, for many years in a Blues band. Used nos GE or Svet Winged=C= power tubes. That amp was dynamic enough to react to the Strat's volume and PUP selection, to go from a deep clean rhythm to some tastefully overdriven fills or double -stops. My point is, that a Twin Reverb doesn't have to be put in a certain "Box". With some attention to detail, they are very versatile amps. JMHO!!!! Maruuk, being an old Steve Cropper fan, I'm suprised to hear him associated with a Twin???? Regards, Art

thanks for all the replies, they've been really helpful.

I just played the Deluxe, and it definitely was clean. I'd think it would be perfect for what I want to play, seeing as I used a (very nice) HH Telecaster with the amp- not my Strat.
I think it might be slightly too quiet for some applications I would need it for, like being waay louder then everybody else by itself, while outside.

so, while the Deluxe is a great amp, I think the Super would be more to my liking, though I do still have to play one. and a Twin, just in case.

thanks again!

You may also want to check out the new 68 custom vibrolux reverb.
It's powered by a pair of 6L6's so more like a Twin reverb, but has the warmth and break up of the 65 and 68 dlx reverbs.
It's rated at 35 watts so not much louder at all than the 22 watters, but there is a little more clean headroom from the 6L6's.
It's also punchier and tighter than the 22 watters due to the 6L6's and due to it's solid state rectifier.

The CVR cab is slightly bigger than the DLX reverbs, and has 2x10 speakers instead of 1x12. There is really good mid bass, just not as low as the larger 12".
If you don't need or want lower bass the CVR may be what you're looking for.

Also, the 68 silver face reissues have reduced negative feedback and due to that they have a bit more touch sensitivity and great response to pick attack and finger attack.
I really like that.
The other cool thing about the 68 vintage modified silver faces is that the 2 channels have different tonal quality due to different tone stacks in each channel, unlike the DRRI and TRRI where it's pretty much 2 channels of the same thing except that there is reverb and tremolo on the 2 channel.
On the 68 silver faces you get reverb and trem on both channels along with the different tone stacks, so you get 2 different Fender tones from each channel for more versatility.

I really like the Twin Reverb reissues. The reverb is the BEST imo, followed by the
65 DRRI. But that TRRI is so freaking heavy.
I think Fender needs to make an amp that's half of a Twin reverb, with 1-12" speaker and 40-45 watts with a pair of 6L6's, along with the same spring reverb unit.
And while they are at it PUT in a freakin effect loop already. It's not 1965 of 1968, it's 2014! :)

Right now I've got a 68 CDR and 68 CVR, and I'm trying to decide between them.
Check them out. It might be to your liking. :)
