so my mother is getting me some giftcards to Guitar Center, and i am selling my Vox ad30vt to a friend and am getting a new/used amp.

cybertwins and deville/ and blues deluxes are selling for 550-600 used on guitarcenters cite... i was set on a texas red blues jr or a vox ac15cc for a while--- but seing the prices of the cybertwin--- i may go that route.

what i am looking for----

clean tones-
blues warm thick.... thin vintage tone.... and every clean in between.
(something that sounds legit and not lifeless.

dist tones-
tube break up dirt to GOOD fender overdrive-barely saturated to almost too much (but thats what my jcm900 stack is for honestly)

effects-
DEEEEEEEEEP reverb is a must! trem/vibrato is also used a lot (i have a chicken salad vibrato in my chain of 4 effects that i take everywhere)
i am very tempted by the tape delay effect in the cyber..

volume-
its for mostly home usage- but as far as decibles go- 15 watts isnt much higher DB than the 130 of the twin, so thats not a major concern, and down the line im sure im going to end up with an original 22 watt superreverb and or 5 watt w/12 speaker blackheart or a 5e3 clone for the living room.

weight--
dont give a sht how heavy it is- come on, i have a marshall stack- who cares?

Concerns with the Cyber-- my biggest fear is that the amp is going to sound STERILE like a typical solid state amp. i really liked the AD30VT, however, it had a weird thing that drive me nuts! some sort of very very unoticable vol cut off when strings were not being played (like an auto punch out type thing) and the fact that the effects (mostly the reverb) had VERY limited possibilities for layering.

what i NEED---

tone. flexibility( HOWEVER AFRAID OF THE TWIN THAT DOES EVERYTHING BUT NOTHING WELL) and need reliablitly. i dont beet up my stuff, nor do i mod my amps (the money it costs, you may aswell by a kit amp and really do a pt. to pt mod amp.

thecyber twins were 1200 when they came out and the barely changed second editions are 1400. used cyber twins are 600 tops- which leads me to believe that the current boooteeeek style tube amp trend has everybody dumping their big amps for little mojo amps and people just arent buying these.

very few of the amps i am looking at have tube power amps in them so, i dont THINK i will notice?????

i have no quams with buying smaller amps down the rd, but for now i am really tossing up the VIBROLUX, DELUXE, BLUES DELUXE and DEVILLE like no matter what i get, i am missing something and all of these amps SEEEEM similar

what does everything think? i am not really sure what my budget is, but i am getting 250 from the ad30vt and anywhere from 100-200 in gift cards.

our second child is due ANY SECOND and i dont have the time to go spend hours in the music store looking through amp after amp with my 16 guitars!

Hey :)

Why don't you go and test the Cybertwin.......
Or go to my profile website, all but one songs are done with the Cybertwin SE.
I can assure you it does not sound sterile at all :)

The problem with trying amps out at the big box store is that you can never really play with the amp the way you would at home or with your guitars. Another issue is that there are always a bunch of noodle faces playing horribly all around you. Looking more for how people rate the amp that have had it for a while. Kinda looking for the total keeper amp rather than the flavor of the week for my tonal tastes.

Hello evol04gt,

I have a Cyber Twin SE, and have had it, and used it, since just after the SE was introduced at NAMM. I would have to 2nd HalfBlindLeftys post. And as he said - it does NOT sound sterile. It sounds like a real amp - because it IS a real amp.

If you can't try one out, here's a link to some of my attempts a music. If you will listen to the amps sound, and not my playing - maybe you can hear some (a small part) of the amps potential. HalfBlindLeftys music is some very good examples too.

Also, here is a link to some info Fender put out on a DVD when the original Cyber Twin came out.
