Is it possible to change out the 6L6 tubes on a HR D 410 to EL84's? You know, turning it into kind of a super Blues Jr?

Has anyone done it, and what kind of tone did you end up with?

It is possible to do what you want.
Search for THD Yelllow Jackets tube converter

or here at
http://www.tubedepot.com/thd-yjc.html

The 6L6 circuits are not really designed to drive el84's so YYMV.

It will cut your output power by 50%-60% no idea what the sound would be like.

It sounds pretty bad at least to me. My friend tried it. I hated the way it sounded. You may like it though.

6V6's might work.

Personally, If it's made to run 6l6's you should run them. You could really do some damage swapping power tubes like that.

Well of course the voltages will need to be dropped down, along with bias adjustment, etc. But the 6V6 will fit in the 6L6 socket.

Thanks for the feedback. This really sounds 'hairier" than I really want to get into. Not a simple swap at all. I think I will just focus on the sound of the 6L6's and leave the EL84"s for a time when another amp comes along that needs a new home.

Thanks for the input.

Merry Christmas to all!!!
