After hearing alot about bias tubes I did some research on it. I know what it is now. My question is has anyone here done one on a SCXD? I looked at my amp and I'm guessing you have to remove the head or mother board or whatever it's called. I'm a newbie. Can someone out there walk me through the process or point me in ther right direction?

Thanks,

You have to remove the chassis to bias the SCXD, and have a setup to suspend it on your workbench so the tubes don't hit. You'll need an 8 ohm speaker or dummy load attached while you do it. The schematic, downloadable from Fender.com/support, has the voltage reading (40mV) you should get on the 1-ohm resistor leading to the cathodes of the 6V6s.

I have two SCXDs. Both were pretty close to the spec and didn't really need adjustment.

So...then let me ask....

....when you change the tubes....

........on the Super Champ XP...

.............how expensive is it to have the amp biasd...????

By th way.....that is the cost in the USA...??

It sounds like it might be costly.

Thanks

It's not a difficult job, probably 20 minutes start to finish. The most time-consuming aspect is removing and replacing the screws for the back panel and the chassis.

A tech might want to keep the amp turned on for half an hour or so and re-check the bias to make sure that the tubes have burned in a little and stabilized.

So it shouldn't cost much money. Whatever the 20 minutes of the technician's time is worth.

Thanks so much for your answer.

It sounds like you have some experince with the Super Champ XD

I just researched this amp and played thru it....

.....and placed an order for one.

I am going to be using it at different times for guitar and harp.

While the amp sounded real good to my ears...

...and most likely good just as is for my puposes...

.....it seems that most everyone who makes a post...

..........would luv to mod out even a tree......lol....

Although I'm not sure that I will need to make any changes yet....

I have read that others swaped out the speaker for either a....

......Eminance.....Raggin Cajun......or Red Fang..

......Celestion.....Vintage 10.....Vintage 30.......or Matchless...

.......Jensen.......P-10-R....

........Ceramic Tone Tubby....

........or a Weber...

I ha also read that hey changed the tubes to either...

.....JJ's/Telas....

......Tung Sols....

.......Electro Harmonix...

Do you have any insights for any or all of the above.

By the way...grunge and heavy metal are not my main choice....

......mostly blues....classic rock....folk...and some country.

Thanks

I put a Jensen C10Q 35W and I like it. I'm sure there's better speakers out there but I didn't want to spend $100+ on a $300 amp. I'm a blues/country/clasic rock player and I think it sounds really good.
