Hello Jaquline560,

Annoyed---you bet.
I'd be on the phone this morning.
Tell em is not fixed and you want your money back,
no need to put up with the stores nonsense.
Darn shame, mine is a good little amp.
Hope things work out.

Cheers.

Thanks mr. bill to understand my frustration :)

But if i get my money back, i would end up buying another Blues Junior hehe. I'll try to get it fixed again, i don't know anything about technical stuff with tube amplifier yet so i can't really try to find the issue myself.

I'll try to be patient and hope i can finally enjoy my Blues Junior Texas Red one day without hearing those annoying noises !!

Jaqueline.
Just on the outside chance please check it on another power supply, i.e at another house in another district. I had a similar problem with my marshalls making weird oscillating sounds. I sent one back to em, it came back just the same. I then discovered that the surge protector i was using was mucking about with the amp  . It was loads better without the surge protector, but still made a hissing sound. I moved it from the bedroom into the kitchen and it was silent until i struck a note.

Hope you get it sorted.

It looks that another problem with the tubes, it only make some wierd loud static noise after playing for 10 min... when the tubes are hot.

The first time it was plastic that melted on the 2 tubes that you have to change at the same time (i don't know the names of those tubes... still learning about technical stuff hehe) But they changed them for new tubes... so i really don't know what is the issue.

Does anybody know what does that? After my tubes are warm... then it's making the noises...

I'm trying to figure it out because i can only go to the store in a month, and probably won't have the warranty by then so...

ok... so i turn the amp on until the noises started again, and i gently tap on the 3rd tubes and it looked like its the problem, could it be that this tube isn't plugged well? When i gently tap on it with a pencil... the static noises change... it does that a little bit on the first tube too.

I need help from you guys who i'm pretty sure knows way more than i do hahaha !

Hello Jaqueline560,

Sure sounds like bum tubes.
I'm no amp Guru, try to get
a replacement tube for the
worst offender maybe you
can get one closer to your home,
or I suppose you could order
one online. I was just tapping on
the tubes in my amp no sound
difference. Your amp is under
warranty so things will work out
it just may take some time.

Cheers.

Hey Mr. Bill, thanks for the reply.

I think it could be the same problem that i got... some melted plastic on them as well. I think i'll order tubes. For changing them, i just need to unplug the bad one and plug back the good one right?

Anyway... at least with all those issues that I got, i learned alot of things about tube amp hehe ! :)

The two big tubes you have to change at the same time are the main 6L6 power tubes :)

The rest are all 12AX7 pre-amp tubes and any of them can be changed out at any time.
I bought some spares from tubedepot, they took about a week to arrive.
http://www.tubedepot.com/

You just have to pick which brand 12ax7 you want. Prices run from 8$us-150$us a tube.
The JJ/Tesla 12AX7's are not bad and only 10$us each :)

Use gloves when handling them to keep finger oils off the glass.

Peterp, your post has some misinformation.

* There are no 6L6s in a Blues Junior. The output tubes are EL84s.
* It is not necessary to keep skin oils off the glass. You're thinking of halogen light bulbs, not tubes.

Jacqueline, if you're getting noise each time you tap the third tube (the one closest to the EL84s, right?) either the tube is bad, the socket is bad, or the solder joint on the socket is bad. All are easy fixes. It's just a hassle to keep going back. There's a chance that the guy who fixed it the first time boogered (that's a technical term) the solder joint and it's still not making a good connection.

The static sound in each note might be phase inverter oscillation, a common problem with current Blues Juniors.

Here's the simple solution (if in fact that's the problem):

http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bjr/oscillate.htm

Other causes could be oxidation on tube pins, a bad tube, or arcing because of another broken solder joint or a bad repair on one of the output tube joints.

I see Blues Juniors all the time in my modification business, and socket solder joint problems are not uncommon. But once they're fixed they should stay fixed.

Yes you are correct, I got my wires crossed between multiple posts, the Jr. is indeed EL84's.
At the operating temp inside the tubes I'd rather keep them clean :)
Radio/tv repair was my gig back in the 60 when tubes & Point to Point in B&W sets was still Hi Tech! :)

Here's an image of a cooked 12AT7 that ran slightly hot because of a bad cathode resistor mod I found on the weeb. :)

Jaqueline560, I hope you get Mr BJ up and going. I just posted on another thread that yesterday I finally had to opportunity to crank my Hot Rod BJ NOS tweed up past 1...and the results blew me and my playing partner away. I was playing my Gibson ES-335 through it with a bit of gain and reverb, and it absolutely sang to me. This is one I'll keep, for sure.

Thanks for all the replies!

One of tubes is very loose compared to all the others, and it's the one that make the noises, i can't plug the tubes propely. I called the store and it looks like i can get it repaired.

Looks like i have alot more to learn on tube amp! :D
