What is everyone's opinion on amps run with point to point wiring vs. amps run through a series of chips? Which sound is more to your liking?

Can't say about sound.
Point to Point seems more reliable, and I would guess uses better quality components.

When I got my Blues Deluxe with its hotrod circuit that has the PCB in it I had heard complaints about solder joints letting go in them.
I had mine a month before it died and had to go in for service,,which turned out to be re-soldering the phase-inverters heater connections.

Looking inside when it was open I also see all the jacks are plastic and surface mounted to the top PCB. Recipe for disaster, a good yank on a cord should pop them off nicely.

got various PCB amps and one point to point. The point to point does cream just about any of my other amps. Its not a fair comparison the P2P is 49 years old and all original.

Hello AustenWade,

There are a few PTP amps out there
that I would really like to own{at least 1}

But my PCB Blues JR. does the job, so I'm
happy. I've tuned myself into it's sound.

Cheers.

A well designed pcb amp that uses a thick board, wide solid traces and has the jacks, tube sockets, pots and switches mounted to the chassis and hard wired to the board would be fine. They're hard to find though.
