I have an ash American Deluxe Strat and play it through a Blues Junior NOS. Any suggestions about the best pedal to get a good SRV sound ? I've heard the BBE Green Screamer is a good overdrive pedal but have no experience with it. I've set the preamp volume to 12 and add the fat switch on the amp but still need more overdrive. Any suggestions?

It's hard to go wrong with an Ibanez Tube Screamer. SRV used one, too.

Hello StratmanSteve,

From what I understand Stevie Ray
actually used 2 screamers in line.

Cheers.

Look around the www.oldtonezone.com and www.steviesnacks.com sites.
That fellow that runs them is trying to do a lot to sound like SRV with a BJ.

It's a hard sound to emulate at home since SRV used Fender Vibrolux, Dumble and Marshal amps sometimes at the same time to get his sound. And usually cranked.

His sound also came from his playing style and very heavy strings.

If you come up with anything that works for you post it :),
many other (me included) are trying to emulate the late greatest SRV.

SRV used a 5751 in V-1 of his amp.

Ibanez TS808. In my humble opinion it is the holy grail of OD's.

Hay Chet, ya SRV seems to be known for preferring 5751's but in which of his many amps ?
I've put a Jan Philips 5751 in my Blues Deluxe V1 and it mellowed the sound a bit.
Still doesn't have that SRV sound, even when being driven loudish from a Tube Screamer (SRV used a ts-10 in his later years) :D

Sort of the "Quest for the Holy Grail" to come up with a easy home kit that delivers on that special sound he had :!:

Wow! Hadn't heard that before. For me one would be enough.

Hello StratmanSteve,

I read about it just after they released
that high-end SRV model I'm thinking it
was in "Vintage Guitar"magizine maybe
a year and a half ago.

Cheers.

Didn't SRV use one for pretty much just a clean boost, turning the drive down nearly the whole way?

:D Google SRV gear, lots of sites try to come up with the lineups of what he used over time.

Stevie put a 5751 in every tube amp he used. That was just a part of his tone though.

Thanks for the advice on www.steviesnacks.com. Some really good information there. If you go to the site now you'll see he is doing a pedal comparison to get that SRV sound. I think I'll check back when he's finished. Thanks for the input.

Yep he has the sound bytes for all the pedals he tested up on his oldtonezone.com site now.
But he is working on some way to easily a/b the pedals from his site.!
