S.A., I recently picked up a Super Sonic Combo. I played one at a local shop and loved the tone. I took a chance and got one on ebay for a really good price. No problem, was in good shape, sounded great. I diddn't get a road case for it like the rest of my gear because I just wanted something small for jammin', and rehersal. Something easy to move. It lasted about 4 months before itermittant pops, and drop outs. The kind of stuff thats almost impossible to find. After several frustrating trips to the shop. They finally found that the power tube sockets were not griping the tube contacts properly, (cheap components). They replaced the sockets. And advised me to get a road case to keep it from gettin' jarred around so much. So far so good. We'll see how long it lasts.

I saw this same thing in a Blues Junior I had. The little metal pieces that the pins from the tube fit in would lose their tension and loosen up, allowing the tube to start vibrating out of the socket. Which also caused some noise problems.

I was always having to go in and tighten those pin sockets with that amp. Kind of got irritating after a while. When the price of the BJ was at about $300, I thought it wasn't too bad though. Still, I got rid of that amp. Now I wouldn't even consider a Blues Junior, knowing what I know about them after having had one, and especially with their current ultra high price.

With the price of a Super Sonic being so high like it is, it shouldn't have a problem like that, in my opinion. That would be something to check into with the amp before buying one. And would be a deal breaker for me, if it had those same sockets. Again, just in my opinion.

For those that already own one, maybe some spring tube retainers might help with the problem? Just throwing that out as an idea.

My first place to check for parts would be Antique Electronic Supply. I used to be a frequent customer there when I was using all tube amps. They were good people to deal with. With my CT SE, I haven't needed to add or replace anything. I did try a couple of the GT Mullard copies, but that's all I've bought for it, and they weren't really needed, and there was no problem with what was in the amp.

I've had a lot of experience with them- had a combo and head+cabinet and never had a problem. Great tones, easy to move around.. Great amps.

I have owned 2 Super-Sonics in the last 14 days. The first one had a hissing/crackling sound with occasional pops (like a record). I have it plugged into an Isolated Analog Audio circuit on a $400 power conditioner. It also had a bad effects loop. It was stuck on. The foot pedal did not respond to the button. Right out of the box. Later I discovered I could get the loop to turn off by killing the power with the standby switch off and immediately flipping the power back on. How useless and bad for the tubes!

I took the foot pedal apart, checked continuity of the switches, verified voltage changes with button presses. CS was no help.

I exchanged it for a second amp. The effects loop does turn on and off with the foot pedal with the second amp! Victory.... Shortly after I discovered the bass control knob does not work on the Vintage channels but the Treble works fine. I haven't decided if I want to take it to a repair shop or return it outright. This one has less noise than the first.

Customer service was utterly useless when I asked them questions. I was told they "only replace footpedals."

Would you recommend this amp to others?: Certainly not!
