My recording was with one of those little DR-5 pocket recorders, i love the ease of making a few fast recordings and having them online in minutes.

Oh, I have a ZOOM H2, the record function in my Sony quit working awhile back and I need a recorder to replace it. I keep the Sony because all the shows from my radio show are on minidisc.

It wasn't that long ago that we had to use cassett tapes

I'm all into analog for making my sound, and i like the sound of vinyl better than CD's too
when it comes to recording this digital stuff makes it sooooo much easier.

Still I have to say the SE version of this amp took a lot of big steps forward in sound, the speaker outs on the back and reachable tubes are a very nice touch also.

I'm still suprised at how fast interest in these amps fell off.

The future of amps, now just another has been

At least for those of us who couldn't take them too serious but had fun messing with all the sound options, they are now extremely cheap !

The Mustangs don't seem to be doing any better, my local craigs list always has a few and every pawn shop in town has them too.

I guess there are tried and true methods that should be left alone !

They had a good four year run, Stevie Winwood used them at the last Crossroads and the 'Blind Faith' reunion with EC. When Santana goes out to jams in SF, he brings his CT. In fact I have a preset in my CT that Santana uses.

I was amazed that more weren't sold. I know that I sold about 10 just by using them at gigs. But it was 'tube snobs' who couldn't wrap the minds around using the CT; I would get these comments, "That thing sounds like a real amp", "Well (duh), it is a real amp".

And I don't feel pawnshops are any indicators of popularity, musicians, especially guitar players, buy and sell stuff all the time. I was too poor in the beginning to into this habit, and still don't buy gear, not unless I really need something.

It's the music that matters most to me.

Hey All,

I am a relatively new Cyber Twin user. I bought it after seeing all of the reviews...thought it was too good to be true but, because Fender is a brand that I trust I grabbed the Ver.1 head second hand.
I AM ABSOLUTELY LOVING THIS THING!!!!
It is now the main amp I am using for everything in my home studio and I couldn't imagine anything better! I don't take it out live because these are rare as kosher pork and I wouldn't know what to do if it started having 'complications'.
I have used Line6 stuff and Native Instruments and IK Multimedia stuff but this just leaves them chewing dust. It is an absolute TONE MONSTER!

What I REALLY wanted to do (and I am praying someone here will be able to help me out) is record exclusively using the SPDIF out of the head. I do NOT use speakers because I choose cabinets via convolution reverb at mixdown to substitute cab selection for the usual EQ and Comp abuse.
Unfortunately, I run all of my DAW sessions at 24/48k.
When I run this head through the session I have to sync to the head and it seems to be pumping out 44.1kHz (which kind of sucks) so all of my session are slowing down to match with the amps sample rate.

Now, all of the Line6 gear I have used from the same time (and was a LOT cheaper mind you) has the ability to switch between 44.1/48/EXT sample rates thru the SPDIF. For the love of God I can't seem to locate anything like that on the amp.
Now, I would expect a company like Fender to have something like that available at the very least...

...does anyone here have any idea how the heck I can get around this?

I am in Australia and no one here has any idea about these amps (very few came out here). Even Fender Australia and scratching their heads and going "Duh?!?"

If anyone could please help me I'll buy you a beer when I finally get my $@! to the States! :D

Nope, I don't think you can change sample rate. I used the CT's SPDIF with the Roland VS-880EX back 10yrs ago and found the tone to be sterile.

The XLR-outs on the CT are impedance balanced and EQ'd to mimic a mic'd speaker, since I used this feature live, I also started recording using the XLR-outs. This works better for me.

Hello Cyber-Twin users! I owned the SE years ago and sold it. My friend just gave me an original Fender Cyber-Twin ver 1.2. It's a bit beat up but still rocks HOWEVER...there are problems.....If anyone can help please let me know.
1. Terrible buzzing (could be tube rattle IDK?) when turned up to 3-4. Glassy buzz coming out of speakers.
2. The amp freezes up quite a bit. Stuck on a channel?

3. No foot switch

4. No manual

5. Upgrade? No clue how to do....people say 1.3? IDK...

I love this amp but can't play out with it and I am broke! Any suggestions. Thanks!

Sound improvement...

Hi, I´m using the original CT in the head version since 2001. I still love the concept of this machine but there are often situations where a tube amp does the job better (to my ear, at least).
I thought the solid state power section might not be the right thing for traditional Fender amp tones and tried the following:

FX send -> power amp in / Orange OR80 (could be any other tube amp)

This sounds much better, more dynamic just as we love it. Downside is:
· volume, presence and master controls are no longer in the signal chain
· effects are bypassed (but compression does work)
· not very comfortable for live situation, but ok for recording

If you´ve got a minute try it. A good tube power amp has a big influence on tone. :-)

Hello. I just purchased a used Cyber Twin (year 2000). When I turn the master volume up to 5 or beyond, I notice that the left speaker/channel cuts out almost entirely. I know the left speaker itself is not blown, because if I reverse the wiring between the 2 speakers, then the right speaker cuts out and the left does not. So it's in the electronics. Any ideas what might be happening here? I noticed a 'DSP Peak' light on the control console, and I read the description of 'DSP Peak' in the user's manual, but I am not sure I understand it. The manual does say to '...recover the lost output level with the Master Volume' when DSP Peaks. But I don't know if this is normal for this amp, or it is malfunctioning. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

It sounds like a 'cold joint' connection on the circuit board, so that when you turn up the volume to '5' (which is pretty loud) the vibration of the causes the connection to 'break'.

Hey Tony Long Time !

How ya been ?
I'll bet your right about the solder joint and yep 5 is pretty loud on the CT's

I'm still a full fledged Tube snob, but the Cyber Twins are still my all time favorite modeling amp.

You ever get a CD out for sale ???
Sure like to have a recording of your band
God Bless
Chris

Hi Chris...Yeah, it has been awhile, mainly because I got a job about 3 months ago. It's really consuming all my time right now, and by the time I get home I don't feel like mixing.

Also, I had a inter-ear infection in my right ear that damaged the nerves. I have about 7db lower in that ear. My son noticed that the right channel on some of the mixes were louder than others (he's re-recording the bass tracks). Going to the audio specialist for a hearing test confirmed this.

Speaking of tube amps, I did buy a used Fender Champion at a pawnshop. I made a few test recording with it using my BOSS ME-20, and original Tube King OD. It's a great recording amp, really 'old school' sounding. I mic'd it with a Studio Projects C1. If I get some time today, I'll record a real song using it and upload later.

Get that Checked out my friend !!!!
We have had a lot of great blind Blues Men over the years but....... ya need your ears !

Take care and let me know when you either get some downloadable tunes or you guys put out a disc !

Job ??? in a band or "real job" LOL

So to keep on subject here has anyone ever tried a speaker swap in a C/T , Just wonder what a speaker with a little "color" AKA warmth might do for the live sound ?

About time I showed up again to ;)

Still using and lovin' my old trusty CT SE. My musical output is a little low the past half year or so, but then again, I'm playing in a Blues band ( right now rehearsals only) Love it !

The CT has seen some brothers and sisters coming in and leaving again.
Tried a Blackheart Little Giant head, but even after some mods it didn't do it for me
Still have a eighties Kitty Hawk the kit, that's about to be converted to a head. I made it donate it's speaker to my current rehearsal favorite, a Super Champ XD that I have been converting to a head/Cabinet. ( first time project)

Wow, that old 12 inch Celestion G12M-70 is working magic for that little amp. I'm playing that little amp a lot.

Here is a pic of the (almost) finished build

Image

btw: I exchanged the tubes in the Cybertwin for a Mullard and a J&J and just love the result.
btw2 : I'm using a Okko Diablo overdrive with the Cybrertwin and the combination of the two rocks. The Okko leaves just enough of the original signal intact and responds beautifully to playing dynamics. The Okko has a learning curve as to it's know settings ( they interact between each other) But once you have dialed it in just right it sounds awesome.
Curious ? The piece is just over a year old, so maybe it's old news for you.
