That's not good news Johnny, hopefully they're developing something else that incorporates the same technology. There are some improvements I'd like to see on the SE and I hope that Fender continues to develop the digital/analog hybrid.

Where did you see them closing the SE's out at $1050 with foot controller?

Sam Ash in New York City, Times Square location.

I already have a bunch of SEs and CTs and foot controllers. If i didn't, I'd take Sam Ash up on their $1050 offer for the SE + Foot Controller. If you have the $, buy 'em asap, that is one good deal.

ciao,
john.

Hey all, thought you might like to see a picture of me playing my American Deluxe Strat through my Cyber-Twin SE and controlling it all with my Cyber-Foot Controller. It's a good shot of all three items in this one and I'm thinking Fender should give me something for the good commercial. Image

Huh? I just decided to buy one of these CT SE on sale at American Musical (or ZZounds.com) for $1149.00 shipped. Fender does not mention on their website that it is being discontinued. I wonder now. Did I make a mistake ordering this amp? Will support for it die? I came upon this thread whilst wondering if these amps are firmware upgradable like my little Fender G-DEC 3 30 modeling amp is. Seems like it is not firmware upgradable. Shame on Fender for not including such a feature after putting so much effort and thought into trying to make it have everthing else.

I just hope this CT SE version is as good as all the rave review comments have said it is. I often wonder how much of these postitive comment reviews are posted by Fender shills to pump it up because alot of the reviews seem to have the same sort of wording and tone to them... makes me wonder if it is one or two marketing types posting all the reviews?

Time will tell when I get my new CT SE amp delivered. Just hope it will be reliable and have "tone, tone. tone" like those other reviews always say it does. My G-DEC 3-30 amp is a very nice practice amp... I just wanted to move up to a real tone monster and hoping the CT SE is it and I will never have to buy another amp.
Is it discontinued because a newer updated version is coming out? or is it discontinued due to not selling and not popular enough with the guitar playing crowd... I wonder?

the cybertwin is a great amp, you did not make a mistake.

the tough part is learning how to use it to get at the tones you want. the cybertwin has an incredible array of settings. it's tone lab waiting to be discovered. the front panel knobs don't do the amp justice - i recommend at least taking a look at "cyber commander". it is a pc based software that lets you get at everything the cybertwin has to offer in one mouse click. see http://www.generalcybersystems.com/GCSWebSite/index.php

when it comes to tone, the cybertwins have their tones. i play a lot of surf style music and they sound great, but i have spent the time to find my own sounds and tones. i would never go back to tube amps, i find them too one dimensional, problematic (tube amps are delicate), and outrageously expensive for what they deliver. my cybertwins are about 6 years old, going on 7, no problems to date, plenty of enjoyment.

as for long term reliability, i have always known fender to stand behind their products, even during fender's dark years. do you best not to break the amp, but if you do, i believe fender will provide suprport for a long time to come, that's one of the great things about fender and why i'm a fan.

the cybertwins are revolutionary, they are way ahead of their time, they are like no other amps on the planet and are a quantum leap above in thinking, capability, versatility and tone. they are a marker in history - you own a piece of musical history.

as for longevity, i hope fender keeps them in production for another decade. i hope the younger ipod/iphone generation discover this amp, i think they will do wonderful things with this amp. congratulations fender, your engineering team did an outstanding job, but your marketing department...

ciao,
johnny.

Thanks for the confidence reply Johnny. It's just my luck that I would decide to jump on buying this expensive amp just when they discontinue it. My life story! Anyway as an old audiophile hobbyist myself I love tube amps sound and solid state amp sound for my Hi-Fi listening. I have a room full of stereo audio equipment both vintage tube amps and solid state. Both types can sound great. I repair and refurbish them too. So I don't mind that the CT SE is a solid state amp as long as it is a good well designed one.

I am contemplating buying the midi foot pedal accessory for this amp now but am not sure which or what is best. I searched and saw a Behringer FCB1010 model but am not sure how good it is. I cannot find the Fender Cyber Pedal anywhere as I read it was discontinued. What's up with that Fender? Some support. Anyway what is a good pedal accessory to get?

I saw your MIDI interface software ad and will consider getting that in the future if I like this amp and keep it.

Anyway, I am an old gadget freak at heart and love these high tech amp features. But my main concern is the sound. I was going to get the Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb RI or the Custom Vibrolux Reverb amp around the same price range as this. But then I read up on this amp (even though it was solid state) and wanted all the emulated amp sounds in one package that they claim it can do. I hope it lives up to the claims.

It should arrive to me UPS tomorrow. Can't wait! I probably won't have much time to play it, but I want it anyway because it is such a cool amp!
BTW. I dig the heck out of my little stock GDEC-3-30, but want more bass and rich tone sound. Hope this CT SE delivers in that regard.

Hey folks, need your help here... I just took delivery of my new Cyber Twin SE amp. Plugged it in and I got no sound out of it at all.
I have the trim level set properly for my guitar. The trim level lights are lighting up green so it is getting input signal from the guitar.

I tried turning the presets to different presets and almost ALL of them produce no sound output! There are only a handful of presets that come on and play through the speakers. I suspect I got a lemon DOA. But I want to check with the community here in case someone else has experienced this problem and has an easy cure. I went into the UTILITY menu and did a factory Presets restore already... that did nothing. Still dead no sound on almost all the presets.

Anyone have an idea if this is normal and I just need to adjust something? or is it dead and I have to send it back for a refund? Dang.

Thanks in advance for any quick answers (as I am going to call American Musical Supply store first thing in the morning about this for an RMA). :(

I asked Fender about the Cyber Twin SE today after Sweetwater told me they were not getting anymore... here's what they said...

"Hey Tony,

Yes we did discontinue the Cyber Line. We do have some products coming out in January that will be similar. Please keep checking www.fender.com for the latest news.

Best Regards,
Jeremy"

I found the problem with my new Cyber Twin SE amp. It has a bad 12AX7 tube! After reviewing the schematics for this amp and putting it into TEST Mode, I noticed that the sound was not being produced on the test1 Tweed Amp, and Test2 HotRod amp emulator settings. But it worked on other Test 3 and Test 4 settings. Since I saw it said Tweed Amp and HotRod amp which implied tube amps sound, I figured I'd check the tubes. Sure enough one of them was dead and probably shorted causing the malfunction. I had a spare 12AX7 preamp tube left over for my Dynaco PAS-3X preamp so I gave it a try replacing the bad tube in the CT SE. Lo and behold, all the presets came alive now and it seems to be working normally. I get sound from all the presets now.

I guess I have to cancel my RMA return and ask them to just send me a replacement tube or a set of tubes if they should be a matched pair.

The amp sounds great. The effects are nice. I have yet to really open her up and test it all out and play with her (yes her). :D It's very late at night and I really could not turn it up to a decent level. Although I did sneak a few loud riffs probably distturbing the neighbors. The wife is mad as heck that I bought such a huge amo with no room in the house. Oh well.

@tkdunn17
Yeah, I guess this model is at least about 6 years old now and they are probably getting ready to launch the replacement. I venture to guess it will be more like what they offered in their GDEC-3-30 line of amps. That is probably will have a USB computer interface and SD card slot for extra storage and firmware upgradable as well as all the effects and amp emulations. I wish I had waited but then again, I can't wait. Too impatient, want it now. Oh well. This CT SE amp seems to be dynamite as it is. It's definitely got good tone(s) and seems well built. I have to decide if I want to get the Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller/pedal for it now. The thing is too damn big for my house though. No room. Wife will kill me for sure.

i don't know what fender has up their sleeves, but the CT SE is one fine amp.

the problem with tubes is the one you discovered and why i got fed up with tube amps.

if you can find an original cyber foot controller, jump on it. nothing beats the original.

by the way, if the CT SE ever goes "funny" and you can't control it, do a factory reset.

good luck,
johnny.

Well, as much as this amp impressed me I just did not feel good with getting a lemon. The Fender support rep said that he would get them to send me new tubes but after I replied back to say okay send them, I did not hear back from him. I compared the sound of this amp to my little GDEC 3-30 amp and I was surprised to find out that the GDEC 3-30 tone was equal or better than the Cyber Twin SE tones I was hearing. Of course this could be because of the old and different brand 12AX7 tube I stuck in place of the bad Groove Tube but still I did not like that the GDEC 3-30 amp was just as good sounding (or better) for the clean Fender tones I desired. Plus I have a hunch that I did not get a factory new amp delivered to me either because all the packets that were stuffed inside the amp cabinet were not stapled down inside the cabinet. The staples were still there with pieces of the torn off accessories envelopes stuck to the cabinet still. The original box it came in was pre-opened and not factory sealed. So I got an opened unit (not factory new) and cannot be sure it was not played with and abuse before I bought it. The tube was blown and bad. So this must have been a store demo or used and returned unit.
I sent it back for a refund and will wait for the next Fender version of the Cyber Twin III to come out. sorry to see it go, I was so psyched to use it.
Lucky I did not jump ahead and buy a MIDI controller foot pedal!

Man I'm glad I found this thread (though it looks like it's been dormant for a few months). I own an original Cyber-Twin that I received way back in 2002 and it's never disappointed me. Unfortunately in the CT's heyday, I was just a kid and was content to flip through the factory presets for fun. Now that I can actually appreciate the ridiculous amount of control you have over the tone coming out of the CT, it seems like there are very few resources when it comes to tips and tricks.

If I had the MIDI cables and funds necessary, I'd definitely consider buying Johnny's Cyber Commander program. In the mean time, however, does anyone know where I can find the Cyber Foot controller? I've seen a few pass by on eBay, but that's been a pretty rare occurrence. I remember them being a bit pricey, however, now that the Cyber series is on the brink of being discontinued, I figure the cost will be a bit lower.
