Watch this video & it should answer all your questions !!!

On another note, I replaced the tubes in my CT. It seems to lack power now & make more noise !! Do these amps need to be biased ? I put in Electro Harmonics (made in russia of course) 12AX7SE. I am putting in the old GT tubes to get my power back !!!![/url]

Different tubes have different voices. I had Sovteks originally that were bad when I bought the amp (used). I replaced them with Sovtek/GrooveTube relabeled tubes and liked the sound until I tried some JJ tubes. They were a bit cleaner and warmer imo. So I guess I would recommend trying different tubes until you find what you like. And then find something you like a bit more :)

My plan, anyway.

actually i liked what was in there, I just replaced them becasue they have never been replaced, not wanting to have any problems during a show. I just dont understand how I have to go to 6-7 volume wise when 4-5 was plenty before.

Well I'm about ready to take this CyberTwin SE out back and put a .30-06 round through it. I'm sure all of you are tired of me writing in about my microphonic tubes.

I have gone through three sets of preamp tubes with this thing. The original set that were in it when I bought it were horribly microphonic. (Remember the youtube video a page or so back?) I replaced them with Groovetube/Sovtek 12AX7's, and they sounded better but were ringing within a week. I replaced those with some JJ ECC83S tubes, and they sounded fantastic... for a few weeks. Then, whenever I play at volume (and at volume, I mean master volume around 3 or 4, everything else set at the presets' levels, trim around 5), I get a ringing accompaniment to go along with the note I play. So, thinking "well I must be buying bad tubes", I opted for a set of Electro-Harmonix 12AX7-EH tubes, which according to thetubestore.com, have been used "to successfully tame amps that defied all other attempts to kill microphonics and unwanted feedback. This tube is a winner, buy 'em and try 'em, they may be just the piece you've been looking for." Immediately after powerup and a moderate (3-5 minute) warm-up time, I played a few notes to see how they sound. Not bad, not as good as the JJ's that I had. But they were immediately microphonic.

Am I asking too much of my tubes? Or my CyberTwin in general? Am I hearing ringing that is normal? I wish I had another CyberTwin to compare with.

Or... can I be doing something to kill these tubes? Am I not letting them warm up? Am I having the trim too high and they're getting fried when I play at master volume of ~4? Surely this CT is made to sound loud when on stage - I'm sitting in my bedroom playing at a comfortable volume. Could something be wrong with my amp's circuitry that could overvoltage the tubes or something?

Grr. argh. etc.

I think you have eliminated tubes as being the problem.
Your best hope now is that it is still under a warranty from Fender.

Good Luck

That's the key right there Homer. It all comes down to fiddling with the amp until you find a sound you like.

I've found several basic sounds that I use and then create sound patches from there. I have some basic chorus settings, reverb setting and drive settings that I use as a starting point for many of the patches I've programmed.

If you use the "Your Amp Collection" presets on the Cyber-Twin as a basis for amp types, you can tweak them until they sound like what you want to hear. If I was trying to guess amp types in a blind listening test I'd definitely lose when it comes to playing 'guess that vintage amp' but I know what I like when I hear it.

Sorry I didn't answer all your questions but hopefully somebody else will chime in. If you want to hear and download some presets I've programmed you can check them out here: Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier preset patch downloads

Not tired of it all a.davis and I can totally sympathize with the frustration. It would seem to me that you've done more than due diligence trying to fix the amp with new tubes and I agree with LesK that you've pretty much eliminated the tubes themselves as the problem. There has to be something else in the electronics causing the tubes to act up.

I'm certainly not an amp repairman myself so I would try to get Guitar Center to honor their maintenance agreement and fix the amp for you or take it to your local amp repair tech.

Good luck man!

just for the hell of it, do a "factory reset" of the SE. this has cured some of the "funny" problems in the past. but save your presets first!

good luck & ciao,
johnny.

Johnny,
Just a quick aside. I noticed a 'Johnny Stecchino" on Mafia wars the other day. You?
Tom

no idea what that is about, definitely not me, but sounds comical.

i took the handle from the movie called Johnny Stecchino starring Roberto Benigni because i found myself in too many of life's predicaments just like in the movie, like when i was in a desert on active duty thinking only a schlemiel (translated: a dummy) would sign such a contract... anyhow, his best movies, aside from "life is beautiful" are:
Night on Earth
The Monster
and of course, Johnny Stecchino.
The starring actress is his real wife.

if you're feeling blue, please see any one of these. you'll laugh so hard it'll hurt, and you sure won't be blue.

ciao,
johnny.

One of the guys at my local guitar shop has been working on an amp. He made a new chassis for the speaker cabinet as well as a matching chassis for the amp head. All was made of a really nice looking wood, lacquered and professionally done. The original amp was broken - the electronics were fine but the wood was all busted.

It got me to thinking... how difficult it would be to fashion such a cabinet / head for my CyberTwin, and separate the amp from its speaker.

I'm not really brave enough to try it - I don't have the woodworking skills to make a decent speaker box and reusing the speaker, re-stretching the cloth over the front in a manner that looked nice and neat. Then there would be the task of fitting a wooden cabinet around the amp section, and making that look nice.

But the idea is mulling around in my head...

Hello Cyber Twin users,
I got a 1st edition Cyber Twin which is really fine. I am looking now for patches from the "SE" which are not available in the 1st version.
Is there any website showing them? I am looking especially for the Buddy Guy settings. The one from patchwizard.com does not suit to my expectations. Any suggestions or someone who can give me the settings from the "SE"
