You do an excellent job of creating presets with distortion & use of the built in effects. My complements to you.

Over the years I've posted various presets, most of them on the clean side. I can get an OK-good sound but I can never get a clean "tube"sound on my CT that sounds "very" good. I think it's the nature of the beast when it comes to clean sounds on a CT.
My CT is the 1st edition.
Have you ever gotten a "very" good clean that would have that clean shimmering Fender tube sound? such as a real tube twin, DRRI, PRRI, etc.
I would think that if you could do it on your SE, I'd probably be able to do it on mine, as the extra effects etc would not come into play.

Can't help but be curious if you have already done that. If you have, please post.

He Lesk, thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it. I have a few clean sounds that I've built from the ground up on the Cyber-Twin SE. I posted one of them on my website. It's the Warm Rain patch. It has zero audible distortion but as it's name suggests, it's a warmer, chorused clean sound.

I do have a couple of extreme clean sounds that I use but I don't feel like they're up to the level of some of the other sounds that I've posted. I usually like a bit of grit in my clean sounds and I don't use the super clean sounds a lot. It does seem like the super clean sounds either get too biting with treble or they get that ear scratching clean distortion that sounds aweful.

I'll work on them some this week and see if I can create a really great shimmering clean sound. I've actually been meaning to work on my clean sounds for my live band work anyway.

cool
Over the past few years I've posted numerous preset,s mostly on the FDP & most on the clean side.
Some of them sound good but all miss that punch that you can only get from tubes. I'm looking forward to hearing what you come up with as I suspect it will be good.
Keep up the good work.

RVMUSH,

I hope you keep the presets coming until you've posted at least ten. That way I can have a whole bank of your presets on my footcontroller.

I'm not even changing the names. If anyone asks me what the presets are I'm directing them to your website.

P.S. The triple delay is super fun. I haven't been able to use it for anything other than dickin' around but I'm going to figure a spot in a song that I can click over to it.

Here's ten variations on a clean sound that I posted in the past, most on the FDP.
Of course I like distortion & overdrive, but clean is also important for some stuff. Fender clean is the "Standard" & I'm trying to get it on the CT

Good Luck mvrush .......

Hey Chronic, thanks for the props! I'll get ten up there eventually. I'm trying to post them regularly on my site. I want to do the Cyber-Twin SE justice with my soundclips and getting them recorded and posted is what takes the time. I've been working on some new music with my band so that has taken a bunch of my time too. But don't worry, I have more coming.

I have a sweet clean version of the triple delay coming. I figured out how to get the Warm Rain chorus sound using the Tape Echo Wow-Flutter setting. That with the triple-delay is really awesome.

LesK, I'll check out your patches. Just looking at the settings you're using in the post I think I know why you're struggling to get a straight clean sound. I've found that even having the compressor on low will push the Cyber-Twin clean sounds to distort and anything above a Tube 1 will distort as well. I almost have that clean sound you asked for. I was working on it tonight and I'll hopefully have it posted by the end of the week. When you see the settings you'll know what I'm talking about. I've got a gig this weekend so I'm busy getting ready for that but I'll let you know.

Johnny, naturally I want people using the Cyber-Commander to be able to load my presets easily.

Many thanks for that, it's greatly appreciated, especially after the tough 2+ year effort to get it done! If there's anything I can do for you...

Ciao,
Johnny.

This is great stuff. Thank you!

I've got a somewhat related question about this with the original cybertwin amp. In the quest for clean tones, I notice if I turn down the gain and bring up the volume [volume, not master] I get weird distortion that sounds like starved-for-power tubes. When I up the gain and adjust the volume, it cleans right up. Balancing these two seems to get me closer to clean. But that gain being down a bunch and causing this- is that normal??

Shockwave, you've nailed the key component to getting a good clean sound. It's finding the right balance between the Gain and the Volume knob. By lowering the Gain setting you clean the pre-amp up and then you need to compensate by turning the Volume knob up. The Gain knob is what feeds the tubes so by turning that down you clean them up. The volume knob is a post-tube volume boost so the power amp (Master) will have enough signal to work with. You're right about turning the gain down and starving the tubes for power. That's a good thing to a point if you're searching for a good clean sound but turning the gain down too far will cause the power-starved distortion. You've got to find the sweet spot between the Gain and Volume settings.

have done thousands of tests with the SE. have found the gain and volume knobs have the greatest impact on tone. Way too many presets have gain cranked way too high. You absolutely right about balancing gain and volume

I don't like having a low setting on the volume control, as can be seen in the ten presets I posted. I rarely use volume at less than 7.
One experiment I tried a while back was to use the volume control to make all my presets have relatively the same loudness level in my players lounge. On some presets, I'd have turn down the volume to around 3 or so. The gain would never be touched no matter where it originally was.
It wouldn't take long for the low setting on the volume control to make the preset sound poor.
Try it & see what you think.

I have found that to be true also. I've yet to find a totally clean tone in the cybertwin- with effects, that is. Just yesterday I was fiddling with the amp- a rare thing I get to do- and I was blown away by getting a totally clean tone. How? Rotating that wheel to a 'no effects' setting. There it was- totally clean. Not too inspiring, but totally, unadulteratingly clean. Imagine that! I don't remember what preset amp I was on, but I'm pretty certain that any one, minus effects, will clean up. As has been mentioned, the tone stack choice, pre/post, and certainly no compression figures in too. I also found that by having the master lower, at around 4, makes a huge difference too. But our band runs on stage volume, not mic'd amps, and so I can't START at anything less than 6 on the master. Another big player is the volume of your guitar. I almost always use a Gibson 345 [in mono] and the sucker can pump an amp to an earthquake when I dial up the volume high. It's a balancing act between the amp master and the guitar volume, just for starters.

And speaking of effects, is anyone else not happy with the chorus effects? I just can't get what I want out of them. For chorus effects, I much prefer the flange in the cybertwin.

Dan

Here's 4 more variations on clean.
They sound good, they just don't sound great. By great, I mean like a pure tube amp. I know we're talking apples vs oranges but I amuse myself by trying every once & a while.
I never had a problem getting a good clean sound, I just couldn't get a "very" good or great clean sound.
Hey, you got to have a sense of humor & you can't blame a guy for being fussy. When the budget lets me, I'll buy a top of the line Fender Tube Amp, but I'll probably still keep the CT.

P.S. In a year or so, when the budget lets me I'll buy a copy of Johnny's Cyber Commander, because all signs point to it being an excellent product.
But for now, my preset posts have to be in text .
