Hey Fellas..I have a chance to trade a bunch of old rack gear (hopefully) for a NOS original Cyber Twin. Turned it on in the shop and it is V1.3 and seems "fine".

It would solve a LOT of issues for me, as I am getting rid of a big rack and (2) 4x12 cabs, as my "playing out" days are probably for the most part over, and with the 7-year old needing more and more of my hobby room space, I have GOT to cut down and this seems to be a great amp to get.

I can get my "metal" sounds form my uber tweaked j-stations and could use the CT as simply a power amp and speaker cab, as I do all my recording from the s/pdif on the j-station and with my m-audio FW410, and from watching that really long video on youtube, it looked to me like it got plenty of great sounds all by itself.

I am going to take a helluva beating on the trade no matter what amp I trade for, as the rack has ADA MP-2, MP-1, EQ's, Alesis stuff, Korg Tuner, etc...but it seems like they would/should be willing to part with the CT and maybe a cheaper guitar to have as a backup.

I am probably never going to need any real volume, but I do insist of great "sound" and from everything I am reading here, even if it is not the SE edition, it still seems like an amp I would like to have..

What do you guys think...? yea? or nay?

Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks!

Birdie :)

birdie,

Check out the cyber twin. I used to have 65TRRI, a Pro-Tube Twin, a Bassman, a ton of Boss pedals, and various other amps. I now use 2 SEs and would not consider going back to my previous gear, all of which was first rate stuff. I say get the amp and anything else you can get deal wise, read the manual Cyber Commander CT manual from www.generalcybersystems.com on the resources page - it does a much better job of explaining what the Cyber Twin does than Fender's manuals. Then get down with the Cyber Twin and start discovering. I think you will end up saying "why didn't I do this earlier..."!

Ciao,
Johnny.

Original CYBER TWIN...I don't know.
..the Cyber Twin SE has capabilities of way,way too loud...I think you'll be good on the loud( 4-6 is all i ever need/except for the clean stuff...then a little louder...thats with a band behind me)....the SE has a tuner built in....The SE has at least 20 awesome metal/rock sounds( i'm sure the original as well)....also check out the website ( patch something??)that has lots of recipies for different sounds...i saw a few Metallica.

Birdie...the kid's here & all that rack shtuff is in the amp!!....duh!...it should be a good trade...plus maybe an Ibanez or something...cool.

Hey Birdie, the Cyber-Twin will be a great trade-up from your rack gear. I used a setup similar to what you're describing before trading to the Cyber-Twin SE. I use the Cyber-Twin SE extensively live as it is easily loud enough to keep up with any stage amp and the line-out connections make putting it through the mains a breeze. The Cyber-Twin SE sounds good at low volumes but comes alive between 4-6 on the master volume knob. It's a heck of a lot easier to haul around than all the cabs, amps and rack gear of my previous setup. You'll probably want to play out again after you get one because hauling the Cyber-Twin to gigs is so much easier.

I just posted another of my custom presets on my Blog. It's called "Hi-Gain Solo" and it's an extreme gain sound that works great for soloing. You can check it out and listen to a soundclip of it here: Cyber-Twin SE Preset "Hi-Gain Solo"

I agree with mvrush. The CT actually made it easier for me to get back into gigging. I had kind of turned into a studio rat because I couldn't get my recorded tone onstage effectively or easily. Once I started using the CT I didn't have any more excuses.

P.S. mvrush I have been playing for way too long and have owned a CT since about a year after they came out. I upgraded to the CT SE as soon as they were offered. You my friend are getting just incredible presets out of this amp. I am a tone junkie and love the tones I've been getting but you definitely bring it up a notch or three. Keep up the awesome work.

Well, I still have not asked outright on the trade, as I did not know about the old original version being "good" or "not so good"..

I do not know if they will or not, but it seems like one of the few choices available to me that they have in the shop that will suit my needs, and it has been in their stock for years, so I figured it might even do them a bit of a favor. They just got in a used ESP that would be a great guitar to keep out of the case and within easy reach as well, so I am hoping that they will ask me the "What would you want" question and I can lay it on them.

I would really like to be able to get the cyber controller for it as well, but the only one i saw on ebay was going for almost $300 by itself!

Hey thanks Chronic! I'm glad you're digging the presets. The Hi-Gain Solo preset is one that definitely sounds better coming out of the speakers of the amp than recorded too. The recording I did sounds great but the amp sounds fabulous. I used the XLR out's on that soundclip and just recorded it direct so I can guarantee it will sound better coming out of your amp. I wish I had better mics to mic it with, my sm57's don't do that sound justice. I have an even better high gain solo preset that I'm going to be posting up soon.

Birdie, I have the Cyber-Controller and it works well but the thing weighs a ton! I think they made it out of tank armor or something. If you want a cheaper controller check out the Behringer FCB-1010 Midi Foot Controller. It should work similar to the Cyber-Controller. It's laid out exactly the same way and I've seen it for as low as $145 new.

I found some docs (opens in MS Word) for the FCB1010 in one of my storage areas, and one for using it with the Cyber Twin.

If you will give me an email address, I'll try sending it to you. They are a bit much to post here. Unless there is some area here that I don't know about for uploading helper files to.?

I have scanned these files with my anti-virus and they show clean - but if you decide you want them, I would advise scanning them at your end too.
After just having lost a computer to - I'm not sure what cause - I'd say you can't be too careful with everything the way it is these days.

Just thought I'd post that Johnny at General Cyber Systems REALLY stands behind his product. In this case it's the Cyber Commander SE for the Cyber Twin SE.

As some may know over the Christmas season our computer went down. The reason is debatable.

What is important for this thread is that Johnny helped me get the CC SE up and running again on our new computer for use with my Cyber Twin SE.

Thanks John!

The program is addictive!!

So for any looking for great sound and ease of use - take a look at a CT of one version or the other, and add the Cyber Commander for ease of use.
