Hi cmiller, ahhhh the good old Digitech DSP-128. I not only still have a DSP-128 but it has the + upgrade chip installed which turns it into the DSP-128+ (4-effects at a time, woo-hoo!!) I also have a DSP-128+ (frequency range extends all the way to 20kHz, oooh yeah!!!)

Anyway, it shouldn't be too difficult to control all 3 of your units from the Cyber-Controller. I'm not really familiar with the ADA MP-1 but I assume it has basic program (preset) changing via MIDI like the Cyber-Twin and DSP-128.

The first thing you want to do is run a MIDI cable from the Cyber-Controller to the Cyber-Twin. Then run another MIDI cable from the Thru of the Cyber-Twin to the In of the DSP-128. Then run another MIDI cable from the Thru of the DSP-128 to the In of the MP-1.

Here's an example of how you could set the units up to be controlled by the Cyber-Controller for preset/patch changing.

Simply set the effect combination you want to the same program change number on all 3 units. For instance if you want your DSP-128 to handle reverb, your MP-1 to handle chorus and your Cyber-Twin to be putting out a Marshall Stack tone. Simply set the effect you want from each unit onto program (preset) 01 on each individual unit.

On the Cyber- Controller select 001 and all three units should switch to program change one. If they switched to different program numbers but all 3 units did switch to something, make note of what program number each unit switched to. Then all you have to do is put the effects you want from each unit in that program number and you'll have the blend you want when you switch to program 001 on the Cyber-Controller.

I hope I am making sense to you. It all makes sense to me but if you have questions, ask away!

On a side note, the DSP-128 is the first rack effect unit I ever owned and I spent as many hours programming it as I did my keyboards back then. Crazy times my friend, but it honed my patch programming skills. Oh, and keep that 9-volt battery changed in the DSP-128 or you'll lose all your DSP-128 programming!! (....of course you could do a MIDI dump...hmmm...)

mvrush,

Thanks for the tips. I finally got the system to work properly but for some reason I have to run midi from the controller to the ADA, DSP and finally the Cyber Twin. The patch changes on the ADA and DSP run 1 patch higher than the selection on the Cyber Twin. So if I hit 001 on my controller, the ADA and DSP say 02 but my CT says 001. Weird problem, but I can work around it.

Yeah the DSP is an oldie alright. What is funny is that pieces of gear have come and gone out of my rack but I always got a good sound out of the ADA/DSP comboniation. When my power amp died I was considering replacing it but instead moved toward the Cyber Twin. I love the amp, I am completely sold on the tone and the versatility of the amp.

My new goal here is to try running both systems as a dual rig. I will never sell my old rack gear so I might as well find a way of expanding my sound even further by blending the two rigs. It should be fun!

Thanks again for everyone's help. I love this resource.

cmiller,

Yeah, sometimes different gear will set their program changes to a different standard. I think the Cyber-Twin is the odd one there but the Cyber-Controller is set up to run the Cyber-Twin. As long as you know which preset each device is going to switch to, you can just set the effects you want from each unit on their respective program numbers. Sounds like it will work well for you.

I've gone through a lot of rack units on my way to the Cyber-Twin SE as well. I used to run my DSP-128 with my old Peavy Classic Tube amplifier. I would switch it with a Digitech Midi Pedal. I finally went all rack through a stereo power amp out to two 12" speakers when I got a Digitiech GSP-21Pro. Now that was the best rack I've ever owned. Talk about sustain and distortion! It was Heavy Metal heaven!!

I thought the Digitech GSP-2120 valve guitar system would be a major upgade to the GSP-21Pro. Talk about an $1100 letdown!! The thing sucked, but I was determined and spent hours and hours programming it to sound decent (never could get great out of it).

Finally gave it the boot and got the Cyber-Twin SE. What a great amp! A lot of the sounds I've programmed for the Cyber-Twin SE are based on sounds I created for my GSP series of processors. But the Cyber-Twin SE does it so much ballsier! Though I must admit, I do sometimes pine for the incredible Metal sounds I could get out of the GSP-21Pro.

My wife was gone, so I was able to play my CT without headphones. I had saw Green Day on TV doing Do You Know Your Enemy and learned it while watching them.

So, I went thru a few presets in the Fender Custom Shop, I had my Epi Dot 335, I finally selected the High Voltage (Hi-Watt) amp preset.

Since I had my BOSS BR-600 recorder already setup, I grabbed a mic, and recorded a rhythm guitar, with drums, and recorded a bass track with my Squire P-Bass.

Here it is, I hope they don't sue me http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7610246.

Ok, I think I've seen this somewhere before - maybe in this forum but can't find it now. My question is - what options are there for 'upgrading' the original Cybertwin to the SE? I could swear that someone once told me you could send yours off to Fender and pay to have some kind of upgrade or update (I assume software-wise)?

The primary thing I'm interested in is the "acoustic " options they added with the SE. Perhaps someone can comment to the usefulness of these amp models/settings?

I play a Tom Anderson Crowdster Plus, which means I have the ability to split out both an acoustic and electric signal or blend them thru one output. (if you're not familiar with this guitar - it's similar to the Taylor T5 without getting into a debate about which is better and such...)

Sometimes I dont have the luxury to split the signals and would like to use my CT for my acoustic signal in an 'acoustic amp' model.

I don't think Fender does that, I've never heard of Fender doing that for anyone.

Not to drop names but I know Shane Nicholas, Fender® Amplification Marketing Manager, and he would have told me if i could get original CT made into a CT-SE.

Bear with me, first timer. I am trying to distinguish b/t the CT and CT SE in regards to the sound quality. Do they both have the "stereo" sound output ? I do notice the SE has wires running to separate connectors on the back of the amp, whereas the CT does not have this. Hope I framed this ok.

Also, what are the major differences that would be materially different to entice someone to the new SE vs a CT.

Thanks

To me the sound quality is about the same, I have an original CT, and have only played a SE at music stores.

Fender made quite a few upgrades to the Cyber-Twin SE (Second Edition), you can read about the upgrades here http://www.fender.com/products/cyber/cybertwinse/home.php click on the Upgrades tab.

Thanks for the reply TH. Any thoughts on the Frontman 212R. Obviously less versatile but I heard a friend playing one with a boss pedal GT8 and I thought it sounded very good. I'm actuallu having a hard time trying out a CT as no retailer has em..I'm in the Detroit area. Thanks !

No thoughts on the Frontman 212R, but I know that with a GT8, and in the hands of a good player it should sound good. I want to post that one of brothers works for Roland.

I have a BOSS ME-20 that I use with my '63 Vibroverb RI.

I've seen several CT & CT-SE here in Columbus OH at the local GC & Sam Ash stores from $500 - $700.

Hey all, I just posted up another of my custom programmed preset patches. There's a sound clip so you can check it out as well as the MIDI Sysex data and a Text file.

This is a very versatile sound that lets your guitars tone shine through pretty well. It's called "LMC Mid Grind '66" and it's got a bit of a '66 Blackface sound to it.

You can check it out and download it here: Cyber-Twin SE Preset "LMC Mid Grind '66"
