Just a quick question on the Cybertwin - I have an original Cyber Twin that I really like. As far as amps go, it's about the best I've had. I've read a few posts here about a v1.3 upgrade or firmware revision. My CT is running v1.2. Can I get any upgrades to the firmware? And if so, what do those upgrades give me in terms of features or functionality?

There wasn't really a firmware upgrade. Some of the early production CT had bad logic chips, mine was one. Also some users were having 'tube rattle', due to not enough structural material on the amp chassis.

Ver 1.3 included replacing the logic chip and a steel strut under the amp chassis. If you don't have have tube rattle, or your CT isn't acting erratic, than you're fine.

I own a CT-1.3, which I am very happy with. Is there any significant difference in actual amp sound between 1.3 and the SE, besides the additional presets and effects?

Well, there are really quite a few amp presets additions, and a few improvements. The two improvements I like are the Tube Screamer, hum reduction and easy access to the preamp tubes.

You can read about them at here http://www.fender.com/support/manuals/pdfs/manuals_elec/guitarpdf/Cyber-Twin_SE_English.pdf.

SE Upgrades include:
• All-new, tasteful cosmetics - Black control panel with blue jewel, white LEDs, silver buttons and trim; dark black/silver grille cloth
• Many useful, fun new effects including Auto Pan Delay, Fuzz, "Lo-Fi" Resolver, Pedal Pitcher, "Green" Stompbox Overdrive, "Blackie" Mid Boost, and Alienator
• New effect combinations like Delay + Pedal Wah, Fuzz + Touch Wah, Octaver + Tape Echo, etc.
• 250 Total Presets - 100 Fender® Custom Shop, 100 Player's Lounge, 50 Amp Collection - including artist authored presets from Greg Koch and Gary Hoey
• New "Level 4" drive circuitry for more extreme distortion tones
• 2 new Tone Stacks: NeoBritish and Dirty Dyna-Touch™
• Improved amp filtering for more natural, airy highs on some presets; 4 new timbre filters including Metal Drop Scoop, Mid Squawk, Super Bright, and Acoustic Scoop
• New patented Hum Reduction with automatic 50/60 Hz discrimination, selectable with front panel button & LED
• Externally accessible tubes (two 12AX7's) with tube rattle prevention system
• External speaker jacks allowing experimentation with other speaker cabinets
• Nearly instantaneous preset changes with footswitch
Cyber-Twin I MIDI preset dumps will work with the Cyber-Twin SE (not the other way, sorry)

But, I'm really happy with my original CT and didn't see the need for a CT-SE.

Hi Shane,

I'm glad you stopped by, and I hope that you'll correct my mistakes  .

Yes, I still have my CT and wouldn't trade it for the world. Just last week at the Marietta (OH) Red, White and Blues Fest, on of the guitarists from another band was surprised that my CT sounded like a 'real' amp  .

At the link is some pictures of us playing and my CT http://cu.mariettatimes.com/pages/gallery.php?gallery=298800.

Heck yeah! I still have my original CT Ver 1.3. There wasn't really any need for me to buy a CT-SE, yet.

Here's a live MP3 http://www.therubbles.com/Hidden_Love_G.mp3 from one of festival show with using my CT. This is a an original song I wrote 'Hidden Love from our first CD 'Prime Cut Blues'.

I walk out into the crowd for my solo, so you have to see in your mind's eye, me stopping to play to several woman in the crowd. Most times the band can't see me, but know my musical cues when to 'break it down'.[/q]

Wow man, great sound & great licks!!!
Do you mind me asking what your setting is on that sound?
I'll trade some of my prgms with you if 'ya want to make it "fair", LOL!!!!

Check out some demos I did with my band on our myspace page here:

http://www.myspace.com/travisredfish

All electric guitar sounds were done with my Cyber-Twin head, ver. 1.3

peace,
J

I feel your pain my friend, I sometimes get a little more "edge" in the background of some of my clean settings on both of my CT's. I usually prefer the Blackface tonestacks since they seem to be the cleanest of the clean settings & have the most "Oommph". I do have to be careful on the gain setting in order to avoid getting a little more background edge than I want on my clean sounds. Also, setting the programs at home at one volume level & then playing the gigs at "stage" volume makes a differance. At a lower volume some clean settings don't have the "balls" I want but cranked up at the gigs they sound great!!!
Another thing with the Blackface tonestacks is that they function just like a real Blackface in that the higher you have the tone settings (treb, mid, bass, pres) the more gain you add to the tone. As I understand it thats how a real Blackface acts so I keep my tones under 6 usually, that seems to keep some extra gain or edge from creeping in!!!
Take a sec & listen to Houston's blues band, he has a link to an audio of one of his songs earlier in this topic & it's a REALLY GREAT clean tone with alot of balls & no hint of distortion or breakup of tone. I'm trying to get him to share that setting with us, LOL!!!
peace & happy CT programing!!!
J

Count me in. I have a CT-1.3 with the foot controller. It has become my "go to" amp. The versatility for recording is especially impressive. I too, have been accused by the naysayers of playing a "real" amp. That whole debate causes me to chuckle. If it sounds good, who cares?!? My tube amps - while sounding good - are all one-trick ponies. I say enjoy it and play it loud & proud! I've owned my CT for years and still have only scratched the surface of its capabilities. A truly amazing amp. Good job, Fender!
