I am looking for for a tube amp for good clean sounds at lower volumes, so as not to annoy the neighbours too much. I was thinking of the Princeton recording amp or the 65 Deluxe reverb. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That little Princeton 200 is only 5 watts I believe. Is this for practice only or gigging too?

The PRA is an excellent choice because of the built-in attenuator. The DRRI has wonderful clean tone, but doesn't really come to life until you push it a bit.

Another good choice is the Blues Junior because of its master volume control. You can dial up the desired richness in the preamp and then use the master volume to control the overall loudness. The three-knob EQ is also nice for filling in the spectrum at low volume levels.

I have the '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue and its clean tone is GREAT. In terms of low volume, it can do low volume, but it can also scream too. It's both my practice and gig amp. I usually don't have any reason to turn the volume up past 2.5 or so in home, but it will be loud enough for most any gig when I take it out of the house. I'd recommend it unless you're looking for a strictly practice amp.

If by low volume you mean bedroom/appartment level, in all honesty you will be better serve by a non-tube amp such as the Fender G-DEC.

There is always a way to get bedroom/appartment level from any amp by using a volume pedal, but my view is that unless you have the top guitar to play with, you should invest in a better guitar as opposed to spend your money on a tube amp for only bedroom/appartment playing. As others have said, some amps only open up at lounder volume.

I was floored by how better my 60 watts super-sonic sounded better clean at low volume when compared to my Blues JR, so size and wattage don't always matter. I use the effect loop on my super-sonic and turns its send & receive levels down for my bedroom playing. That said, I wish I had a G-DEC to carry it around anywhere for practice purposes (i.e. move it from my music room to my desk, to outside, etc).

Thank you for your opinions. The amp is not for gigs, but that doesn't mean it wont be turned up somewhat.
