Hello, this is my first post here! I am about to purchase a Blues Jr. and have a question for those members with experience. Since I will never gig or play out of my house, I am more interested in tone/sound than portability. Therefore, I am wondering what it would sound like to run the amp through a 2x12 or 4x12 cab. I would never have to move it from my living room and could place the amp on the cab relatively permanently. I know that with the Deville's, the 4x10 is supposed to have better clean sound, vs. the 2x12 which is better for distortion. Since I would play mostly clean, should I consider using a cab with 10" speakers rather than 12's? Lastly, would there be a simple way to use the existing speaker along with the added cab speakers (a total of three or five speakers) by somehow tweaking the total impedance to something acceptable to the amp and which would not harm it?

I would appreciate comments from both those who have tried something like this and from those who can merely speculate what the outcome would be.

THANKS!! :D

Kluson56, actually, my neighbors are spaced quite a ways from me and my house is fairly sound proof. On the other hand, I am not interested in destroying my own hearing -- what little of it is left after flying F-15 fighters for years! :(

Now that sounds like a fun job, mind you I have a problem on fairground rides so maybe not for me.
As far as the BJ's are concerned, I use mine for home practice and jamming in rehearsal rooms with some mates. I find the standard set up works really well for clean and overdriven work. I use the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic for the overdriven stuff.
I have the Celestion Vintage 30 which was standard for the Tweed Limited Edition version.
With the SD Twin Tube and the clean tone from the JB, I have effectively 3 channels (clean, blues overdrive and classic rock overdrive) which is great for the blues to classic rock I mainly play.
I've never tried plugging into any cab's so I wouldn't have any experience there.

Great looking BJ you have Snowy, I'm having a problem with the EL84's getting to hot and I know the Bias is the problem but I was wandering what valves your running.

Thanks mate,
The EL84's are JJ Tesla and the preamp valves are V1 RCA, V2 and V3 are JAN Philips 12AX7.

Thanks Snowy. I'm now thinking the GT valve may have had a fault as the other one is fine. I remember not long after I got the amp I noticed this one had already started to burn off the label. The other GT is still looking fine. For the time being I've got hold of an old but new Thorn Mazda EL84 Radio valve. Seems to work fine and sounds good as well. A friend has access to a local Tech College as he is their Electronics Tutor and they use the old stock to show students what valves are.

It was a custom case sold with the amp when I bought it new, the store had it made. I've had the amp for 10 years now (bought it new in 2000) and gigged it a lot so the case has helped keep the Bubinga cab from getting marked and it's kept the amp like new.

I have a new NOS Blues Jr. I noticed some changes.
There is cage protecting the tubes. Is this supposed to
be for shipping, or is it a design change? Also, the reverb unit
looks different, cosmetically.

Hi drlipo, the Blues Jr. sounds great through a Marshall 1960 4-12 cab however it's not set up so you can use the amp's internal speaker with an extension speaker,it's not advised to do this as it may damage the amp. If you want to put your amp on top of a 4-12 though that should do the trick.
