I have looked into this in the past and have come to the conclusion that you can not date a Blues junior by the serial number. Old fenders ie. Bassman yes, Blues Junior no.

yea, i read the serial # means almost nothing in reality, for people like us anyway.

however, what about the PCB? there is a datestamp in the upper right hand corner. (to be honest, i'm speaking in terms of the P Jr, not B Jr...but i assume it should be the same case).

question is, how does that datestamp work? is it accurate to the time of amp build/assembly? or is it just the year that circuit board was made, and say said board was stored away and used a year later or so?

All of this is quite cool ! That custom built cab looks great and bet it sounds even better. As a vintage amp tech and player, I can appreciate Billm's walk- through explanation. I've worked on a few of these newer amps and the need to be gentle is key. I would like to know: if the change in circuit boards resulted in any increase in board thickness, trace thickness, or any other structual changes that provide improvement, in any way? Again very nice effort. ART

This seems to be the place for this:-)

I was wondering what the actual wood is for the cabinet of the NOS Lacquered Tweed Version (with Jensen :D oh yes).

I love it a ton! Great tone, chime, sparkle, etc...

Wondering tho if a cabinet upgrade might be a good idea in the future.

Would also think about doing something like Chet's BJr. but with a second Jensen C12N. Thoughts?

Hello John Whirl,

The cab is made of millions of fragments
of wood held together by resin, Chipboard.

Cheers.

Thanks Mr. Bill!

I think somewhere down the road a new cab might be in the works for it then:-)

Chet- You used Walnut for your cab. Why did you select walnut? How is the tone?

What about baltic birch, or pine?

Thanks!

Hi all. There is one question. I wished to buy Blues Junior amp. In our local Fender shop there are two new Blues Junior Tolex, made in Mexico, and for both does not work reverb. Why it can be.? That can there what blocking (for transportation?) reverb springs..? The technician of our shop is not competent and does not know why it so.
Thanks if will answer.

great posts everyone! I had a chance to buy the 2 tone sam ash model #90 out of 125. I passed it was used at guitar center for 429 when a new one is 400. I have 2 of the Blues jr.'s and absolutly love them. Any gig i have done i have never neede more volume. I play around the ohio cleveland area and usually use my NOS tweed with the jensen but if i need more i also run a Bj that has a Celestion Hellatone in it! i have also thought about a custom cab and will do one soon. I recovered my black bj to match a danelectro i have, just for fun!

I have gone through several amps during my quest to find not only the right tone, but the right volume and I have ended with the Blues Jr. I play in a 5 piece band four nights a week in several different venues in the Atlanta area. With the Blues Deville could drown out the bass and drums every night if I wasn.t careful. The Hot Rod Deluxe was a little better, but I still couldn't push it past 2 without blowing peoples ear drums. The Blues Jr. has allowed me to switch between jazz, blues and rock without sacrificing tone due to low volume. Not only am I pleased with the tone, but I can carry it from my car to the stage with one hand. I'm a true believer that size matters; especially when its smaller.
