Wow chet !!!!

It must be nice to have wood working talent and ability.

That is sweet.

This is a great thread with a lot of thought and research, imagine doing the same for all of our favorite amps.

then let the questions and coments run below the basic facts.

Yeah it must, unfortunately I don't have that talent.

Amazing!!!

Did you rig that? Do you have plans?

I had that built for me.

That's a really cool sentence. I had that built for me. Makes you sound like, presidential! Yeah, I had it done for me. I wish I had people to build stuff for me!

Awesome amp! I am sure it sounds much better becauese the stock cabinet isn't much. I am considering building a new cabinet for my blues jr. It probably won't be as beautiful as yours. Do you know where I could find plans to construct a new cabinet? I will probably stay with a 1 x 12 format.

Chet,

That amp is a work of art, it's beautiful. I bet it sounds every bit as good as it looks, thanks for posting the pic.

hello! i'm looking at buying a used blues jr, but the seller is warning me that there is a "squeal" when you turn the volume over 10 or 11. he believes it to be a cap filter issue, which he thinks should be cheap/easy to fix. does anyone have any experience with this? is it something that should make me wary? is it actually a cheap/easy fix? he's offering a very good deal on the amp, but if it's gonna cost me the difference between this and a new one, i'm not gonna worry about getting this one.... anyone have any insights??

Quote:
Here's the deal - it has a squeal (don't know how else to describe it) if you push the volume past 10 or 11 (goes to 12). Not sure why that is happening. The master volume works fine - no problems. I spoke to a tech who suggested it may be the "filter caps" (don't know what that means). The tech said this was a cheap fix. It only needs to be fixed if you're intent on playing it really loud. I never did, which explains why I never picked up on this before.

Regarding the squeal, is it an older Blues Junior (2001 or earlier) with the green board? If so, the problem is likely internal feedback from the treble control to the input jack. You can control it by shielding the jack with aluminum foil tape, but the most effective fix is to replace the jack with a Switchcraft-style jack and run the input through shielded wire right to the input resistor, skipping the trace on the circuit board, which is also prone to feedback.

Lots of information here:

If you have any questions ask away! I would love to help. The bottom line is most are the same except for what they are covered in and what speaker is in them. Truth be told, you will get an awesome amp no matter what which BJ you get.

I own a hot Rod NOS (tweed, Jensen speaker) and it is rapidly becoming my favorite amp. I love the sound of a Gibson through a Fender, and now I have that at hand without a weight or expense penalty.

Mine is lightly modified, to the extent of a Ruby Reverb pan and a Weber Beam Blocker. Recently, after having played it in the living room for a month or so, a friend and I got to together to work on a long-delayed music project and I took the BJ and my 335 out to his geodesic dome with the high ceilings and awesome acoustics and had a chance to crank it up above 2.

The result? We set up around 3:30 pm and played until 10:00. That BJ sounds sooooooo good! I couldn't find a bad note on the Gibson, and the tone had a chime and presence that's hard to find. Very even response, all over the neck, and it complemented the other guy's Martin (equipped with a high-end pickup and plugged into my Jazzmaster Ultralight) to the degree that only the need to drive home 25 miles in the dark made me stop.

Awesome info .There is alot of confusion among the different versions.Especially the tweed and the tweed nos.I had a older stock black one and sold it,when i went lookimg for a smaller amp later i found a blonde version. After playing it for a while. i must say the newer board sounds alot better than the old one.
