How do these two amps compare? I've got the 85, with a bad main input, and am trying to decide if I want to trade it for an FM65DSP. I mainly jam with my step-son (drums) and his friend (guitar, bass) at the friend's house...full volume! I love the sound of my Eighty-Five, but not as well through the second input (I believe it's -6 db). I use a G&L SC-3, similar to a Strat. I'm not sure where to have the Eighty-Five serviced if I keep it.

Any suggestions?!?

85 seems to be quite ancient piece of amp.. it´s a solid state as FM65DSP..I´ve got FM65DSP and provides quite a big scale of sounds..I think it´s a pretty convenient amp..would be a good choice

Unfortunately, my pesonal experience is that the "Frontman"
series of amplifiers are lacking in quality. Inexpensive to buy
so you wont be out of alot of cash but not quite up to standards
of even less reputable manufacturers of similiar amp types.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Fender guy I'd just have to recommend
a Blues Jr. over a frontman of any size any day. If you must buy solid
state than I'd suggest about any another brand will give you
better quality and sound: Peavey, vox, Line 6, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Can anyone refer me to a proper repair center? I think Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, Indiana is the closest one to me, but I'm not sure.

Sweetwater guys are professional, I'm sure they'll
take care of you. I used to live in Angola a few miles
north of Fort Wayne.

FM series is not so bad..honestly, it is rather low-end, but provides enough being inexpensive

If it were up to me, I would rather have the input repaired on the 85, rather than trade it in for a FM series. I owned a FM 212 a couple of years ago and it was one of the worst amps that I had ever played through. At least the 85 is American made, isn't it? That alone should be worth saving.

i have fm 25 and i think its a lil bit crappy compared to blues jr in some local store testing.

For now, I'm going to keep my 85, as I figured out a way to anchor my guitar cord so I can use the bad input without problems, and the second input works well with my Line 6 JM4 Looper. When I get a chance, I'm going to play a Blues Jr. and find out what everyone is raving about. It's getting too much praise here for me to not take a look/listen.

Thanks to everyone who has posted!

I love my 85  . Its got its place in life. I'm not gonna play an important gig with it, but of the solid states its one of the best. Light convenient and sounds Ok. I'd repair it, or find another one.
