Hey

Not played 6 string much recently....been very busy with my 4 string friend.

Anyway, got a HR Deville 410 brand new, 2 years old, never gigged, just play at home LOUD with it...its in MINT condition.

Today, playing my Telecaster through it as normal, I noticed a buzzing on the low e, a and some on the d string. This buzz is strange, it gets louder as im closer to the amp. Its not distortion, as its on both the channels. Its not right though.

I tried another guitar, same issue.

It might be something rattling in the tubes and being amplified?! Im not an expert on the inner workings of a guitar amp.

I notice when i take it past 3-4 volume wise...it goes away a fair bit.

Basically, I bought it when I had spare cash and its barely been used....like very barely. Does it need new tubes as they have been in for 2 years? Or is it just something rattling?

Ive no idea what tubes sound like when they need changing!

Cheers

Gareth, UK

Hey!
I play through the same amp and had all sorts of problems with it til I got it sweet, and by that I mean VERY sweet.
I had strange buzzing, microphony and high squeal's goin on for a fair bit of time, bout 2 years. In the end I just changed the valves. Try 3 Electro-Harmonix 12AX7 preamp valves, 9 quid a pop and no biasing needed, may just eradicate the problem, if not do the power valves too.
It's a fine amp once she gets goin!
Best of luck!
K

Just look at afew of my posts and you'll see what a fun time I've had trying to eliminate that ugly unwanted distortion.

tube swaps, speaker swaps, and resoldering the boards.

to date i have invested more than if i would have just bought a bassman or a nice twin.

but I'm not giving up on the Deville, I still hold out hope for a very sweet amp.

Update:

I called a Fender trained tech and told him of my troubles, he said, I know exactly what the problem is, I have been through it with many Devilles, deluxes and so on.

He tells me there is a handfull of 1/2 watt resistors on the boards that are burned up any time there is a problem with a preamp tube.

He said replacing them with a one watt resister solves the problem and gets rid of the ugly noises.

Well I took mine to him yesterday and we shall see when it returns, if this $50.00 repair fixes my noise, I'll be a happy camper for sure !!!!!

I brought mine to Andy Fuchs of Fuchs Sound here in NJ. I had a humming buzz kind of sound. It turned out to be a bad set of the stock Fender plastic inputs. Had them swapped out and Andy also did a couple of other minor up grades, no more problem and it is sounding sweet!

I wonder if I have the resistor problem in my Deluxe Reverb... I was plagued with bad tubes when I first got the amp (new by the way). I had microphonic preamp tubes and power tubes that just up and died. It still makes some weird noises though. Snap crackle swish shwoosh crackle. It's not very loud and can't be heard when I'm playing. Really it doesn't bother me all that much, but I'd like to get it fixed. I'm pretty obsessive about tone and such.

My input jacks were replaced two trips to a tech ago.

It did fix some of the noise, not all.

Mine has been in the shop a week now this time and hopefully this gets her sounding sweet again !!!!!!
