The reason why I ask this is because today I went to to 10 on both channels with the volume and the speaker had sounded distorted, like it was not able to handle the power. I would think the clean channel would stay clean at this volume level, but i wound up having to back down the volume for it to sound good, around half way. Anybody had this trouble? The speaker is a Fender speaker. :?

If you replace the stock speaker with an Eminence Ragin' Cajun, you could get another 20-30% on the output of the clean side before break up from speaker distortion.

I'm told by folks that know about these things that it is ok to turn it up al the way - won't damage the amp.

Some players like the sound of a little bit of speaker breakup. Some like a loud but not distorted speaker. Frankly, I think the stock speaker sounds very good. You can spend more money and get a new speaker if the change enhances your playing. You could also spend the money catching a local artist that will spend a few minutes between sets giving you advice that might actually improve your playing more than a new speaker.

It's all good - many paths to finding your sound. I play my SC all the way up when I'm at home alone and even boost it a bit with a TubeScreamer. No worries. Also play through a Z now and then turned all the way up (18 watts, as well, but with a more efficient speaker) and it sound swell. The only knock on the SC turned up is that it doesn't seem to growl like a typical 18-watt amp. Sounds great but it doesn't really behave exactly like I would expect. On the other hand, put a pedal in front of it or put it on one of the model setting and it sound fine.

You are playing at top volume? My Marshall JCM 200 can only go to about 10 1/2 before it goes BOOOOOOM! 8)

I have a big house and a long guitar cable. It's nice to get a little natural reverb. Didn't the JCM amps have the "goes to 20" knob?

"That's nine more than 11, innit?"

Hi Everybody,

In my opinion ,our friend should buy a 2x12" extension cab. There are some of them out there that are very cheap. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE YOUR EARS. Really !!! You can also wire things up so that you have both the cab and the internal speaker running. Try it first in a guitar shop and then if you like it buy it. i tried mine with a Laney 2x12" cab and I just couldn't believe it. Much higher output and a fuller, bassier tone but with all the twang you need. Also many of the voices of channel 2 look much more interesting and true with the cab . Just try it !!!
Greetings from Greece...

You said the following in your comment about the XD: You can also wire things up so that you have both the cab and the internal speaker running. How do you do this and still acheive an 8ohm load? Please let me know as I want to run the stock speaker as well as a 2x10 cab at the same time.

Thanks

How old is the amp? The speakers need a little breaking in. I very rarely turn mine up that loud, but I do occasionally and it sounds better as it gets played.
