Hey guys I had a twin reverb and sold it. I love clean and the twin obviously answers that. I like versatility in my drive tones and thats why pedals are great, but I never felt it fully captured real "tube" drive.

So are there any bands who used twins for any heavier then blues with drive pedals?

I am thinking about an orange rockerverb because of the high headroom clean and versatile drive knob, but I am not sure yet.

No big names come to mind but here in Texas there are alot of bands that use twins with pedals. Mostly in the country/rock and blues/rock they get great overdriven tones and are able to smoke when they go for solos. I do not have a Twin reverb but a Pro tube 100 watt twin and use drive pedals in front of my amp. I agree that many pedals out there sound sterile and generally non musical but there are a few that I like. I currently use a Keeley moded DS-1 with the Ultra mod which is my marshall in a box. After buying my Keeley DS-1 I sold my Marshall JCM2000. I also use a Keeley TS-9 Mod Plus which is like a regular tube screamer but with more tonal options i.e(more gain and cleans up better).

selling your marshall jcm for a fender and a pedal, that is quite the advertisement for that pedal. And a marshall jcm we must be talking a tone heavier than blues and country.

I have no regrets whatsoever. The Marshall did only one thing and did not do it all that spectacular. I play everything from rock and blues to jazz and country and need a versatile amp which the marshall just was not up to. I feel that Fender amps are a lot more responsive than marshall and offer more tonal options. I get all the gain I need from my two keeley pedals but I also have a overdrive channel on my Twin.

Why the Keeley DS-1 ultra mod? And why not the Keeley Turbo Screamer? I have been looking for a pedal to get that "Marshall" sound out of a clean Fender amp without having to buy a Marshall.

If you want a Marshall type sound out of a Fender then I can not recommend the Keeley DS-1 Ultra Mod enough. A lot of pro players in all genres use Keeley pedals and for a reason. Keeley pedals sound amazing through any tube amp and are super responsive to your playing style. I alternate between finger and picking and without having to change settings on the pedal.
