Here....

Notice that the master is high and the volume is low.

The volume gives you overdrive, so this is set up for a very clean 'classic' fender sound. even with the volume on 2 here - it's quite loud, and I'm using the volume as volume!

with a bit of reverb, you'll get a nice beach boys type sound.
Also your pedals will really shine through on this setting.

Some people would whack the volume right up, and use the master as the volume control (I do too!) this will give a creamier warmer sound. good for classic rock, blues (junior) etc.
your overdrive pedals might end up sounding a bit muddy with this setting.

the fat switch is just a boost really - on the settings in the pic, it will get things chiming a bit more, and add a touch more volume and drive.

Hi CAFeathers,

Can I ask you question about the Blues Jr settings that you shared with us a while ago (I hope this does'nt sound too stupid!) where is the gain on a Blues Jr? I dont have a gain knob on mine. :?

Regards,

Think of it as volume = gain
master volume = volume
kind of.

Good luck.

I have 2 Blues Juniors, one is with a Celstion Speaker (put it in myself in 2004), and a Blues Junior that I got modified by some company (forget the name, but they were good). Fender makes great amps and the price you are getting for it is a DEAL! Have fun with that amp! They are one of my favorite amps of all time!   :D

Rock On!

OK Chet: In that you have been deemed "the man" in this matter would you be so kind as to compare and contrast the amps which carry the designation "Blues..." as listed in the catalog and give me some direction as to to which way to go in terms of choice; i.e. Jr. Deluxe, Deville, the RI

Thanks

Doc

It has been several years since I did any comparisons. Here is what I did. I had a "tone", "sound", or whatever you want to call it in my head. I gathered a few amp settings from postings on amp forums (or here for you). I took those and went to several guitar stores. Picked guitars closest to what I owned at the time. I sat down at the different amps and tried the different settings. I kept notes as I went.
I did this a couple of times and wrote different notes each time. Then I sat down with my notes and found the one that had what I was looking for.
It took me a month to do this.

A Blues Junior has a Volume knob and a Master knob. Volume controls the preamp gain. Master controls the power amp gain. There is also a boost push button. You can use a foot switch to activate that feature.

If you crank up the volume and keep the Master setting low you will get distortion in the preamp at low volume levels. If you crank up the Master but keep the volume low you can get distortion in the power amp section at a manageable volume. Crank them both up and you'll see how loud a fifteen watt combo can be.

Well....if it's enough to get me thrown out of the house, I might have to reconsider!! :P
