Any opinions on the tone / output of the two. Im having some issues with my combo. Loved it for the first few months now its been in the shop for two weeks. I've heard the the heads may be better. How can that be?

Because you can change speaker cabinets.

Well being able to swap cabinets is obvious. I'm talking about the components of the amp itself.

I would think it's the same amp. You could always change tubes and experiment a bit. Combos are rough on the components too, epically the tubes. It's rare to get tube rattle in a head.

That's pretty much it. The combo has the reverb circuit added and the sound waves could really work on the tubes in a combo. I've been all through the my 1 week old head using a schematic and looked at the circuits. Everything is pretty solidly built. I retubed mine with NOS tubes. It was expensive, but now it's quiet at idle (low static) and really cranks when I turn it up.
