Bought my Pro Jr. used about 2 months ago - love it - had the hum problem but got over it using Miami Mike's suggestion of the MesaBoogie EL84s (Thanks dude) So now I wanna ask - thinking about an external speaker cab - any suggestions? (especially cost effective ones)
Thanx

I've got a Pro Jr. Tweed that I found used at a guitar shop about two months ago. I got it for $100, which I think was a great deal. I love this little amp! My only problem is that there is a hum/rattle when turned up high or I hit a more 'bassy' note. I wonder if it is the tubes??? Any thoughts?

As a Gilmour owner I can tell you it is one of the best! A real players guitar. Like you said in an earlier post, get a job and save. It's certainly worth it. Good luck!

fhopkins you got a gilmour ?????

which one did you get and tell me about it !!!!!

I will say we removed the tube holders and springs and have yet to get a bit of noise from my son's P/J

Could it be that the anti rattle doohicky is causing some of this noise ????

Check out fellow forum member Billm's page for quieting your PJ :

Thanks for the info. I definitely appreciate it, but I'm not very confident I'd be able to rework the insides of this amp. Plus, the noise I'm experiencing is most likely caused by a faulty tube or speaker. It only happens at high levels. With the volume below 3 or 4 the amp sounds great.
Thanks again!

I've been considering getting a Blues Jr for quite some time. I never considered the Pro Jr because it had no reverb. At the same time, it appears one of the weaknesses of the BJ is the wonky reverb.

What do you PJ owners actually use when you want reverb?

blues bondsman, check this thread I started a while back

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... 0001+strat

Stratman, I've got both a Blues Jr. NOS and a Pro Jr. (as well as a DRRI) There's no comparison between the 2. Unless you need and amp to be as small as the Pro Jr. is, (I use mine for a lunch box sized locker stuffer to take to work), or unless the $ limits you to the PJ, get the BJ, and if able, step it up to the NOS. Sometimes you'll find a scratch and dent at Mf.

Kind of a long story, but I managed to get mine, not a scratch and dent (but that's what I initially ordered), from Mf for $414 about 6 months ago. They're going for $550 now.

dafreeze,

Nice gear !!! By sheer coincidence I looked in on MF's "Scratch 'n' Dent" sale and they listed a tweed BJ at a good price. When I clicked the link the amp was already gone. Thanks for the advice!

Thank-you Stratman, I enjoy them all. I run the DRRI and BJ NOS in parallel, or switch between the two through a Lehle Little Dual Amp Switcher Pedal. Pretty awesome. I'd like to trade up the Ric to a Ric 12 (would like a 360/12 but need to try one first, may end up having to go with a 660/12 due to neck width), pick up another Pro line Gretsch (probably an SSLVO), a Gibsson ES-330 w/P-90's and American Deluxe Tele.

My Son (18 and still with me) has an Epiphone G-400 (white SG) we upgraded w/Gib 490R/498T's, Schaller Lockers and CTS/Switchcraft guts and a Gretsch 5120 upgraded w/TV Jones Classics and CTS/Switchcraft guts.

Neither one of us is very good, but we have a ball.

I had been watching for a scratch and dent BJ NOS. As soon as one popped up, I called them to order vice doing it on line, hoping that would be more of a sure thing, as they usually get scarfed up pretty quickly. The lady said they had two. After a week I hadn't gotten any email conformation, so I called. They said not to worry. Few days later, still nothing and they'd not deducted my checking account so I called again. This time I was told it had just shipped out.

When I got home from work that day, there was an e-mail saying they'd cancelled my order.

I called again. Was told none were available. I started whining and asked for some cheese and a supervisor. Talked him into selling me a non dorked up one for a better price than their $550. He said he couldn't take it down to the ~ $400 or so (forget now exactly, but that's close) of the Scratch and Dent's (Said they pay more for than that), but he could take it to $439. I said......OK.

10 more days go by. Get an e-mail said they're now on back order. I call again. This time they've got the cheese ready, and offer me a $25 credit. I said......OK.

So, my $550 Fender Blues Jr. NOS cost me $414. That's only one of the MANY times Musicians Friend has done me right. I love those guys.

Good luck Bud, will be rootin' for you.

He was getting feedback whenever he wanted to as well...from the side fills.

It sounded so killer.
