This thread started out about Fender's unwillingness to change the volume controls on their amps to standard audio taper to eliminate the "touchiness" of the control. Let's get back to that.

Fender should be willing to make that no cost change to their amps because it's the right thing to do.

You'll never see it. People have complained about the volume control since the beginning. The complaints seem to fall on deaf ears.

Lets face it, Fender has made it apparent that the amps they are building in Mexico are being made as cheaply as possible. They are living on a well earned reputation. The amps are still good, but after reading so many postings of new amps with problems, one would think they would change a few things so these problems would not exist. If these persist, soon, muscians will be looking elswhere for amps that look and sound like Fenders.

I'm from an era when PCB's did not exist, tube sockets were riveted to metal chassis and point to point was standard. There were no odd problems.

Looking inside the modern Mexican made amp I am wondering if part of the problem is the surface mounted tube sockets. The tubes get very hot when they reach operating temperatures and the constant stress of heating/cooling cycles has got to cause problems with their solder joints. Especially when you add in heavy vibration the amps may be subjected too.

I'd have no trouble reaching in and changing a pot or other component in the old amps, not comfortable at all with desoldering/soldering on the new PCB's.

Due to my own cost restraints I'll have to live with my Mexican made amp, until I bump into a vintage blackface being sold at a yard sale Here's to wishful thinking :!:

I have bought my last Fender amp. I am selling my BDR and buying a Blackheart BH100. I already bought a Blackheart BH15 (Handsome Devil). I can't say enough about it. It has the correct volume pots!!!

I'll keep my Blues Junior only because I have modded it and it sounds pretty good now.

When Fender wants to listen to the customers concernings their needs and wants I'll be back. I know one person won't make any difference but one leads to two, two leads to four, four leads to eight.....and so on.

I still love my strat though!

That's a little harsh isn't it. I agree, it's frustrating about the volume pot, but in other ways, Fender has a history of listening to customers and making changes to products.

The Hot Rod Deluxe has been out since what 1995? I think 13 years of complaints and suggestions concerning the volume pots, bad solder joints, and poor quality components on these amps warrants herebyproxy's attitude.
I know you haven't had problems with your HRdlx but I have and so have many, many others. I don't like plunking down my hard earned money on a disposable amp.
I too am from a time before pcb's. The HRDlx is my first and last PCB amp.
My other 30 year old Fender amps including my Champ are still fine and sound great. They have never had anything but tube changes and bias checks. My Ampegs and my Dano DM10 are still working too with only a cap job.

I can understand the frustration (somewhat) about the linear pots, but am I going to get rid of my Blues Deluxe because of the pots (for a Blackheart)...I don't think so.

When my HRDlx takes a dump for good, I'm going to build a 5e3 in the cabinet. I wouldn't underestimate the Blackheart. The Ampeg J20 is a really sweet hand built amp for 800 bucks too. The key point is hand built, no pcb.

I agree. I have a Hot Rod Deluxe, and I leave the volume preset, and use my guitar for volume control.

I'm not an amp tech but I know I've had my fill of my band mates telling me less is more. How much less can you get than .5 on the volume knob? I'm new to this group and it's encouraging to see I'm not the only one having this "problem". I have a mid 90's Deluxe 112 and the slightest change on the volume is like zero to apocalypse. I happen to like it REAL LOUD but it doesn't seem to appeal to most people I play with, and by the looks of it, most of the people posting here either.
