Do you guys know if that Texas Red Hot Rod Deluxe is more expensive than the regular tolex one? I know it is for the Blues Junior.

I recently bought a Hot Rod Blues Jr NOS from MF after trying the Hot Rod Deluxe and Deluxe Reverb RI in the local store.

I quite liked the HRD (over the DR) because it had a lot more tonal variation than the Deluxe (woulda been cool to have a Fender Deluxe to play my Gibson Les Paul Deluxe through, tho), but in the end I went for the lighter BJ. The particular model I have has a nice tweed cab, and a Jensen speaker.

I modded it with a Ruby Reverb and a Weber Beam Blocker, which incrementally improved the sound. Iit's fairly picky about which guitars it likes. It did not sound good with my Epiphone Sheraton II with Seymour Duncans, but my new ES-335 -- once I replaced the flatwounds -- sounds really good through it. It's chimier than the others (I'm told this is a result of the EL84 power tubes), and weighs only 31 lb. It's a great living room amp, because it can be cranked a bit without blowing out the windows.

Best if all, it sounds like a Fender. Second best of all, it has a distinct voice from my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight, which is more in Super Reverb territory.

hehe, you guys makes my decision even harder!!! Both amp have excellent reviews... I'm going to the music store in two weeks, so i have time to think about it. Is it just me or the Hot Rod deluxe have a warmer/thicker sound than the blues junior?

Hey Jaqueline, it seems to me that you really dig the Deluxe. If you buy the Blues Junior, thinking that you should have bought the Deluxe, you'll always be sorry with the Blues Junior. Go for the Deluxe go go go. :D

The Blues Jr is probably treblier (I prefer, "chimier") than you'd like. The HRD will warm up better.

A really warm one is the Deluxe Reverb Reissue: if I weren't struggling to downsize everything, I'd get one. It would be a serious contrast to the BJ.

I'm a proud new owner of a Blues Junior Texas Red!!! :D

I finally made my choice and choose a blues junior... i prefer the tone of the Hot Rod but it's wayyyy too loud. I can barely put my blues junior over 1 and in my appartment.

I can wait to have the chance to crank it up!

Too cool. After years of lugging around big honkin' amps, I am now down to the BJ, a modified Pignose G40V, and a Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight. The Junior is the hunk of the herd, weighing in at 31 lb.

Well, congratulations! I hope it is a long and happy association!

Very cool Jaqueline, congrats on your new Blues Junior. The more you'll play it, the more you'll love it. Sweet color too. I'd like to see pictures of that amp. :)

whatever you get take a look on your local craigslist the Blues deville or deluxe can be had in fair condition for 400 to 500 if your patient that goes for the 65 twin another amazing amp to put in the mix just my opinoin but its going to save you alot of cash maybe you would need new tubes but your still going to save.
