Either one would be an excellent choice. Personally I have a Blues Jr.
Go out to a music store and play both. Listen for the tone you are looking for.

i already tried them both, but i prefer the tone of the deluxe, but it's kinda too loud because i live in a appartement, but the blues junior is way less loud and heavy. Can i get a good distortion even if i'm on volume 2 on the hot rod?

With a decent distortion pedal you will.

The Hod Rod Deluxe is a good amp and it is my main amp. The drive channel is good for mild to mid overdrive. The "more drive" channel is, IMO, useless as it is way too harsh. The Master volume pot is changed by a lot of folks to an audio taper pot to make the gain easier to dial in.

The only change I made to mine was to replace the stock speaker. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I replaced it with a Weber 12F150, which is more like the old Jensen speakers than the ones Jensen makes now. I run from an '05 American Strat (with Tex-Mex pickups) to a Dunlop wah, to a Fulltone Trower overdrive, into the amp. Cleans are pure and it has plenty of growl. It has, for me, the perfect blues tone.

At 40 watts, it is loud. If you use a good pedal for your overdrive/distortion you will be able to get pretty good tone at lower volumes. The best tone comes from this amp when it is cranked and can sing. It starts good and just gets better.

I'm happy with mine. In fact, I have both a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Vibro Champ XD to cover both ends of the spectrum.

Hey Jaqueline, I also live in an apartment and before I made the big choice, I seriously gave a tought to the fact that my neighbors and I didn't need the extra watts. And if you tried one, you know that a Blues Junior can be more than loud enough for your needs. Just my experience. Anyway go for what you really want and choose wisely. :)

Cheers.

They're probably both good amps. I have the Hot Rod Deluxe and I've been happy with it. I see posts of people with the Blues Jr., and they seem to love that amp too.

I keep hearing people talk about the Deluxe being too loud in a house or apartment. I bought it so that I could play over drums, bass, etc....yet, when I practice by myself, I just turn the guitar volume down and it seems to be no problem at all.

I did fine with a practice amp for a while......but when I started to play with other people, it wasn't keeping up with the drums and the other amps. So I broke down and bought the Hot Rod Deluxe. I'm glad that I did, because it's a great sounding amp, and I'm still able to use it for solo practicing too.

So in end.....in my opinion.......it's just what tone you like better. The Deluxe or Blues Jr.

Thanks everyone for your great advice! I actually like better the tone of the Hot Rod deluxe, the blues junior is great too though. Well next time that i go to the music store, i'll try them both again, and then make my decision.

Prior to getting my Blues Junior, I felt the same way. I didn't think it would have much punch, man was I wrong! And as for tone, this little amp is class.
