Dear Robert and All,

From my own personal experience, the Cyber Twin is argueably the finest and most advanced guitar amp ever made. Yet it's also one whose complete range of capabilities is least understood by many of its owners. I should know, I struggled with it for over a year until I decided to something about it. Cyber Commander was created to unlock the Cyber Twin's true potential, not only as a "guitar amp", but as the incredible tone machine that it is. This is a guitar tone revolution waiting to happen. Cyber Twin owners, and any one looking for a 21st century amp with roots as far back as the 50's, needs to know that this incredible combination is now available. Nothing else even comes close.

Many, many thanks for letting me post and spread the word on what an incredible tone system this is.

Johnny.

In about a month and a half, on September 23 2009, Cyber Commander becomes 1 year old! The baby is healthy and growing slowly and is still a baby.

Ciao,
Johnny.

Dear All,

By all accounts, Roland seems to have obsoleted the UM-2EX by the CAKEWALK UM-2G. Here are the differences:

On inspection, the packing is quite nice compared to the UM-2EX (with lots of encouragement to register online). The device comes with a detailed manual and a CD with advanced drivers for the UM-2G/3G (drivers not really needed). All of the markings have dropped “Edirol” and now say CAKEWALK by Roland. The major difference is that it has 2 IN ports (as well as 2 OUT ports) instead of 1 IN port. The minor differences are that it has 2 THRU switches, red LEDS, is black, and the USB cable is a bit shorter. It has an “Advanced Driver” switch that should be set to OFF unless you install the advanced driver. Recommend it not be used; however, the advanced driver might be needed for other reasons. Cyber Commander does not need the advanced drivers, as before, it’s plug’n’play. Also new are 2 “Thru” switches for IN/OUT port 1 and IN/OUT port 2. Their position is ON or OFF, to use with Cyber Commander they have to be OFF.

Because the UM-2G has two IN ports, with this one device, you can use it for for both the Cyber Twin and the Foot Controller. The UM-2EX had only one IN port, so you needed two UM-2EXs to accommodate the Cyber Twin and the foot controller.

To connect the UM-2G, just plug it into any USB port on your computer. Once plugged in, Windows XP or Vista will find and install the necessary drivers and the device will immediately be recognized. Again, you do not have to install the drivers supplied with the CD. Once recognized, the red USB LED on the UM-2G will light up. If it does not light up, your computer will not recognize the device - it has to light up! Normally, this step is painless and the LED will light up.

Once the USB LED is lit, start Cyber Commander and go through System Setup. Everything will work as it does for the UM-2EX. You will see the red IN and OUT port LEDs flicker whenever there is data traffic between your computer and the Cyber Twin or foot controller. Fun to watch at first and confirm everything working. If you have difficulty, we can help turn on the USB LED.

As above, the UM-1G is a direct replacement for the UM-1EX, and same for the UM-3G.

Shortly, we will be updating our manuals to reflect the above. We also will beef up the FAQs and Troubleshooting Guides. To date, 99% of the problems were related to faulty drivers and MIDI cables! I don't recall the other 1%, but none were due to Cyber Commander or its installation. All problems, 100%, were solved. The hard work put in up front has resulted in a good and reliable software.

Ciao,
Johnny.

. . . and I'm continually blown away by it. I thought the Cyber Twin was awesomely cool in the first place, but this software is a major enhancement. In fact, it's a must, if you own a Cyber Twin. The Cyber Commander's ease of use is stunning. Having the power to painlessly manage all the various effects and parameters is such a huge bonus, not to mention being able to back up old and new presets.

Whew. It's a great thing.
