For all Mac users:

Cyber Commander runs on Macs with Parallels desktop + Windows XP (SP3) running in a virtual machine.

I really like the idea of the dongle. I have been holding off installing the Cyber Commander until I get a new laptop so I don't have to put it on my work one. This would be a great asset. As you might remember, I asked several months ago if I could install it to a USB drive. Similar concept.

johnny stecchino wrote:
The dongle looks like a USB memory stick, but it isn't. There are many forms of dongles, from full USB drives to simple, programmanble microcontrollers. Their purpose would be to enable software and allow the EULA to float from one computer to another - the EULA would be tied to the dongle.

What we are thinking of is letting the dongle hold the activation key(s) to use the software only (rather than a USB drive). Basically, the software and user files would be installed independently on any computer, but to use the software to its full extent, you would need to plug the dongle into the computer's USB port. This is the lowest cost aproach we could find and it allows you to back up your computer and its files independently of the dongle. And for would-be hackers, the keys are dynamic and PGP encryted. Good luck trying to crack... maybe next century...

We are looking and asking lots of questions, we are trying to find a sensible low cost solution (emphasis on low cost). We have our own specs (dynamic encrytion) as it appears there are suppliers we can work with.

The obvious benefit would be that that you can install Cyber Commander on as many computers as you want, and you can enable full operation by plugging the dongle into the USB port. This means you would not need an activation key, the dongle is the activation key. To accommodate this, dongle versions of Cyber Commander would be released. Please note the dongles do cost a bit extra, but we would buy them in lots to get the best price.

All existing customers would get a special offer (only for existing customers before the dongle version is offered) and they would have both activation-key and dongle versions of Cyber Commander.

This is the plan, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Johnny.

Glad to see you are thorough in listening to your forum posters. I can not wait to get into the CC further. Thanks for also putting together a Database for users to Dump Settings. This could make finding that perfect tone easy for the masses.

Three things:

1. Definitely think opening it up to a very easy to find FCB1010 would be extremely useful

2. Just bought the software and would like to install it to a USB Thumb Drive. You could make the USB a key that needs to be in the computer in order for the software to run, but allow the program on many computers.

3. I definitely think there should be a database to upload/download individual user files. Sharing them will bread creativity, as well as some great tweaks. Perhaps people could list them as the Artist/Song they are trying to model.

Just my two cents.

We will indeed have a Trading Post (it will have some snazzy seach/sort/filter features). We have refreshed the website, added the trading post, and are planning to get a Cyber Twin forum going. We will cut-over to the new look with the Trading Post by summer.

We took a long and hard look at dongles. We figured out how we could incorporate dongles securely, but wow, these devices are expensive. For our level of business, the cost is about $40 on average! Somehow, we don't believe anyone could stomach the price so we dropped the dongle project.

Despite not having a dongle version, I want to reassure everyone we plan on being around for a long, long time. Anyone who has interacted with us knows we stand behind what we say, we strive to be responsive, reliable, and flexible, the customer is king.

We tested the Behringer foot controller and verified it works. The catch was to setup the Behringer to behave like the Fender Cyber Controller. This is quite easy to do, excellent manual provided by Behringer. But given a choice between the two, I would definitely get the Fender foot controller.

Dear Fender, your foot controller is a great product. But I would suggest one improvement: the power jack on the FC is subject to breakage. It would have been better if you built-in the power transformer and provided a heavy-duty AC power-line instead. And oh, the manual, definite room for improvement.

As far as Cyber Commander goes, it has been bug-free and is rock-reliable, it'll be a year old this September. We are not planning on any changes to it at this time (because it has been bug free). With respect to problem reports to date, the issues were faulty MIDI drivers, faulty MIDI devices, faulty MIDI cables, or a faulty PC.

Ciao,
Johnny

Dear All,

We updated our site www.generalcybersystems.com , we now have a trading post for both Cyber Twins (SE and CT). The Cyber Twin preset/patch library will be "permanent" and it will be available to everyone. To upload presets/patches, you will need to register.

The Cyber Twin/General Cyber Systems Forum is under construction (we are writing the code for the webpage so that it can be self-managed). Please be patient, we are learning as we go along!

We are also developing the Cyber Preset Wizard (two versions, SE and CT). It will be similar to Cyber Commander, but it's job will be to create single preset text files. It will be free, the intention behind it is that it makes the creation of presets/patches easy and documents them at the same time. It will not have download to amp or any real-time control capability, but it will have setup and it will down load the Player's Lounge from amp capability, a reasonable demo of Cyber Commander.

Ciao,
Johnny.

Any comments on the trading post? Anything we can do to make it better?

Hi Johnny

It was very easy to download a preset and with Cyber Commander just a few mouse clicks and the preset was in my Cyber Twin SE amp...

I also uploaded one of my own presets....Apache, to the trading post, very easy... I just saved the preset on my computer with Cyber Commander and uploaded the Text file to the Trading post....

My only question.... Is there a limit on how much text you can write in the description box....explaining the preset, some of the tweaks, why you used a certain setting over another in creating the preset??? I know when I download someones preset and look at how it's put together, those questions come to mind....

Thanks JakeJ

time to eat my words... we are running out of disk space on the server, we are stuck limiting the trading post comment field to 255 characters for now.

Ciao,

Hi Johnny (and all)

I posted three of my presets to your trading post.
They are named Jaguar RH, Lucille RH and Archtop acous 4.

There would have been another, but your site wouldn't allow it.
I call it - My '65 TRRI. And that name is in the txt file too.

Th error message from your site said alpha and numeric only.

I tried taking the " ' " out, just before the "65" - still didn't accept it.

And also said there was an error in the txt file with the name field and the "Blackface" tone stack field. Error mentioned "SQL" server in error message too. I don't have the foggiest idea what that meant. ?????? :?

The preset works fine with my CT SE. I even tried re-loading it to the CT SE, then get from amp, then save and over-write file. Tried uploading again after that - still the same problem. I don't know. ?????? :?

Anyway - It's available too if anyone is interested. I'll post the patch info below.
Code:
1  "My '65 TRRI     "    =Preset Name          ;
2  "Blackface"           =Tone Stack           ;
3  "Pre-Distortion"      =Tone Position        ;

11 "Low"                 =Noise Gate Type      ;

Cyber Commander is still relatively unknown to many Cyber Twin owners. This simply my way of getting awareness up. Come visit http://www.generalcybersystems.com/GCSWebSite/index.php for detailed explanations of how to get everything out of your Cyber Twin.

Despite one cosmetic update, there are zero bugs to date. All all "problems" were either faulty MIDI cables, faulty MIDI drivers, of some thing funky in the PC, all problems were resolved. Everything in Cyber Commander works exactly as described in the Cyber Commander manual (available for download from above website). As always, all problems were resolved either via email or by phone, generally within a day or two. As always, we are always available to help, any time.

One more tiny thing, if you have a sequencer, instead of the Fender Foot Controller, you could always send MIDI commands with your sequencer.

Ciao,
Johnny.
